Pill has made me bleed for longer?

Posted by: shinedsprite.livejournal.com

Hey everyone, I have a question!
I was prescribed the microgynon pill to delay my period as I'm going away this Thursday for two weeks and can't really be on.
Unfortunately, I think she told me the wrong thing! I have only have about a 21 day gap between each period which meant that I would come on halfway through. The doctor said to start taking the pill the first day of my period before I go which was the 6th June. So I did that, but I have now been on my period non stop since then! It was very brown/black at the beginning - which is unusual for me - and on recommendation from a friend, I stopped taking the pill last friday. Now my period seems to have gone back to "normal mode" so is now red. I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to have to be on at the beginning of the trip, but will my period last as long as it would normally? Or i have managed to freakishly mutate my cylce?
Please help!

comments

excessive bleeding.

Posted by: squiggles-32.livejournal.com

Hi everyone! I am looking for some support/suggestions/experiences regarding excessive bleeding during periods.

I am currently on ortho evra (the patch) which I have been using for at least the last two years. My cycle is every 28 days with light spotting over the course of 3-4 days during my patch off week.

Last week, I had an awful period with cramping and a four hour period of excessive bleeding. I removed my patch on Sun 2/19 and hadn't seen any spotting until Thurs afternoon. Typically, I will see spotting two days after patch removal. So I had some spotting on thurs and nothing major. Noticed some cramping but nothing out of the ordinary. Then I went to bed and was woken up around 3:00am where I was just bleeding and bleeding. Its as if it wouldnt stop. I went and sat on the toilet after using three super tampons in about 45 mins. This is something that I have NEVER experienced even when I was off bc. After about almost four hours of this heavy bleeding, it eventually subsided. I then proceeded to have some spotting until this Tues 2/28.

For the last few weeks I have felt nauseous, sometimes dizzy, run down. My family has a history of endometriosis and early menopause. My sister also needed to have an ovary removed due to a grapefruit sized cyst on it.

I was concerned after talking to my sister and decided to go to the gyno. She did an exam and told me that she's hoping that this last period was just a "fluke" and not to be too concerned. She did a pelvic exam, felt around, pap smear and sent me to have my iron levels tested.

I can't help but worry that something is seriously wrong and the dr is just waiting until next time. What if I go a month or two without excessive bleeding and then it happens again? She suggested possibly changing birth control from patch to something else to see if that would help before doing an ultrasound. I'm just not sure if I should get a second opinion or what. I don't want to have an ultrasound done to ease my worries although it would be helpful and I also don't want to play around with different types of birth controls to stop the excessive bleeding.

Am I being to paranoid over this? I am 30 yrs old and am worried about missing my opportunity to have kids.

comments

menstrual hives and assorted problems / deploy hormone pill!

Posted by: gsyh.livejournal.com

I've had periods so difficult that back in high school, I spent the first afternoon of it on the couch in the office. Nice thing it did for my social life...

..and hives, I already have bad skin problems, but come red tide, it gets so much worse.

I'm looking into starting on the pill for many many reasons (contraceptive being one of them), but primarily, I'll like to not feel like crap every month.

So which pill is best, for those of us with menstrual hives? The only one I know of is Yasmin, from the commercials, but um, what are you guys on?

ETA Nov 8th 2011: I have been on Aviane 28 for over 3 months now, and while I still have enzema problems, the really terrible menstrual hives are gone. Since it's low dose, I have some spotting before the last pill, but the /last/ period (third since pill) was so light, all I needed was a few pantyliners. I highly recommend starting the pill!

...it did make me tired and depressed in the beginning. I read that it depletes vitamin B, and with more beef, liver, and eggs in my diet (plus bananas and potatoes for potassium, which improves mood as well), I feel better now.

comments

Going off birth control...

Posted by: xprivate-eyex.livejournal.com

So I have a potentially stupid question, but I have to ask.

My husband and I have decided we're ready to get pregnant. I've been on Seasonale for 3 1/2 years. We realized that in order to have a baby in April (the latest time of year we want to have a baby) we have to conceive in early-mid August.

If I stop taking my pill today, is there a possibility that I could conceive in August or would that simply be too small of a window for my body to go back to normal? I know everyone's different, but I just need to know if it's even a possibility? I tried doing some Google research but couldn't really get much of a picture.

( The gory details... )

comments

I think I figured out part of the Sherman method or something similar

My period has always been sort of weird....it'll come in between 27-34 days....so I have a week to expect it and the app told me one of the days in that week so I expected it to be quite accurate.

A few days before the week where I am expecting my period, my boyfriend and I got into the biggest...I don't know if you can really say it's an argument....but I guess just a situation that made me almost break up with him and all of these numb, confused, and depressed feelings lasted for a few days.

I didn't get my period that week....And a week had passed so I started to think...Shit...I'm pregnant? Nah...well maybe...

And well during this time him and I made up and our relationship got stronger and we feel closer to each other...

So Yesterday was his birthday/parents' 23rd anniversary. Earlier in the day it was just him and I hanging out and I was treating him to his favorite things and buying him what he liked at the mall. I had a weird feeling in my tummy and I got my period. Really. Effing. Heavy. It wasn't that big of a deal because I caught it in time, but I was still super worried because I was wearing a short dress....a WHITE short dress...so the entire night that we were with his parents I was not only nervous about being around them and making them hate me, but getting my period blood all over Miami.

(we've been together for over a year and I have met them before but for some reason this was the first time I got to actually spend time with them and I totally won their love by getting them things that they love and apparently by being "shy and adorable)

So I went online searching for what could possibly be the reason for my period being so late( it hasn't been this late in over a year) and I have come to the conclusion that the stress from the argument threw my ovulating off.

I wouldn't mind getting pregnant with his baby....but I much rather wait till we're married at least.

comments

What are the odds?

Posted by: gaiman-phile.livejournal.com

Okay, so first I want to apologize if this post is all over the place . . . it's 4 in the morning and I'm not really right in the head at this hour. :/

I haven't had a period since 7 August (the first day of my last period). 6 months and 3 days ago, I had a tubal ligation along with removal of endometriosis. There were two spots she couldn't remove because they were too dangerous. One spot was on the artery that supplies my left ovary - yet ALL of my pain is on my right side - and the other spot is on my colon.

I had a shot of Lupron on 14 June and was told it would fix the problem. Wrong. It was supposed to stop my periods, yet I bled in July, I bled in August, both were very heavy - like always - and both were almost a week long, complete with the excruciating pain. The Lupron shot was a 3mo one, instead of the one month one, and it made me sooooooooo crazy, I decided I wasn't going to go through that mess again. I was an emotional roller coaster ride from h---, and I was scaring not only my family and friends around me, I was scared of myself. Yeah, it was that bad. :( I've never had Lupron before, and I don't think it would've taken that long to stop my period, but . . . yikes. I'm scared out of my wits right now as to what the heck is going on inside my body.

There has been only two major stressors, but stress really doesn't cause me to miss my period. I've been having periods since I was 13 years old, and whenever I've been under stress, my periods were always heavier. The only two stressors that I endured were a house fire which was the beginning of August, the 2nd day of my period, and I had an issue with someone who I had moved into her old house and she was going to rent it to me, just to bring her ex-husband into the mix, and . . .well, it was a mess, but I've since moved on, and I handled it with far more grace than I thought I had in me. I've gone through worse, trust me. I've never, ever missed a period b/c of stress, and I don't get stressed very easily. There are things that do get to me, but I rant for a day, and I'm fine after that. This is just . . . I'm . . . needless to say, this is not normal for me to miss a period. Not unless I'm expecting. I have had 3 children - one of which was a stillbirth - and four miscarriages. The most recent being 26 July last year. :(

( possible triggers )

Thank you in advance for any and all information you may be able to offer. I put the warning and a cut as possible triggers, as I don't know who may have endured such a horrible thing, and I do not want to upset anyone.

comments

Increased discharge before period?

Is this normal? It's not clear and ropey like the discharge I experience near ovulation.

Can hot weather affect discharge? That may be a dumb question.

comments

Cramps, back pain and no period.

Posted by: herminia.livejournal.com

My period is now one day later than it has been in the two years I've been casually tracking my cycle. My cycles vary in length from 29-34 days and today is day 35. I once had a cycle (last July-August) that ran 45 days, but I was just returning from Tanzania with a serious case of food poisoning at that time, so that made sense to me that it was so incredibly late.

I've been fighting off a sinus infection since early May. My last period came on time and was normal. I thought that I ovulated 14-15 days after my last period, but then I had increased discharge that looked like the discharge I get at ovulation AGAIN about a week later (days 19-20). I started having cramps and back pain, as I always do, on day 28 and the cramps and pain continued through this morning and now seem less painful this afternoon. I feel like I had an invisible period. My breasts still feel swollen, as they do during PMS, but hurt slightly less today. My boyfriend and I use condoms and haven't had any issues. I took a pregnancy test first thing in the morning on day 32 and it was negative, but if I ovulated later than I thought, it may have been a false negative...

Anyway, I'm just really freaking out. I've never gone this long without a period. I've been very stressed the past two weeks (facing a potential move across the country), low-core sick the past month, and I suspect I may have lost a few pounds. I am very thin naturally (5'6"/105 pounds) and when I last weighed myself, I was hovering around 100 pounds. I'm not sure how this happened, since I"ve been eating very healthfully as always.

It's possible that a slight dip in my weight + stress + illness have conspired to make my period late. I am just nervous about pregnancy at this point, and I know no one can reassure me there until I take another pregnancy test later this week.

I guess I'm seeing who else has had experiences like this to reassure myself until I test again.

Thanks in advance.

comments

Nausea with ovulation.

Posted by: herminia.livejournal.com

This is my best guess - my body is super-sensitive to fluctuations in hormones. I'm often intensely nauseous the week before my period. This month, I am moving into ovulation and I'm nauseous again. I had a normal period that started May 11 and ended by May 16. I should be ovulating this week and, true to form, my discharge became clear and ropey today.

Does anyone else experience nausea alongside ovulation? What do you do about it? Is it anything to be concerned about? I admit it's been worrying me a little because, of course, whenever I start experiencing nausea (often several times a day), I think "morning sickness!" even though I just had a normal period and no condom mishaps and obviously I wouldn't be ovulating if I were pregnant.

I'm considering getting a Mirena IUD to reduce my nerves about contraceptive failures (right now, my boyfriend and I use condoms) and to regulate my hormone levels. I've had terrible times with oral contraceptives, but I'm hopeful that the low dose of local hormones in a Mirena will be tolerable and will make my nausea subside throughout my cycle and make my period cramps and bleeding more bearable.

comments

Strange Blood Stains

Posted by: frolicnaked.livejournal.com

I noticed this while I was clearing out some of my clothes for Goodwill or other destinations yesterday.

Some of my dark pants -- the ones that end up being my "period pants" precisely because blood stains don't show on the outside -- have strange stains in the crotch and inner thigh regions. They're the same kind of "bleached out"-looking stains that are on my black underwear. The ones on my underwear I know come from the bacteria in healthy vaginal fluid creating hydrogen peroxide, which can end up bleaching the material.

But. Is it the same bacteria present in menstrual blood... and in large enough concentrations for them to be bleaching my pants? Or is something else the cause here? (I'll note here that when it comes to laundering my pants, the bloody ones get soaked in cold water for 20 minutes as soon as I can, then get washed on cold with dye/perfume free detergent. I don't think either of those steps is causing the bleaching.)

More importantly, is there a way I can keep this from continuing to happen to my pants? They are more expensive to replace than underwear. Also, while it does not seem to happen to my dark jeans, I cannot wear jeans every day of my life. (Also too, and maybe more interestingly, it does not happen to my dark colored cloth pads, which often sit for a day or so before I start soaking them.)

I realize that the optimal solution is never to bleed on my pants. However, until my uterus gets on board with that plan, it is not going to happen. Same thing with the next best option, soaking while the stain is fresh: I soak as soon as I can, but that's routinely several hours from when the stain occurs.

Solutions for preventing bleaching blood stains? Thanks!

Cross posted to vaginapagina and menstrualhut.

comments

Going on three months now...

Posted by: neth-dugan.livejournal.com

So for years and years after I started my periods they weren't regular, I'd often skip a month and sometimes it felt like I'd get one every other. But in the past few it has settled down into something more normal, if still irregular.

That said, for a few months they'd become really long, or I'd get one for two days, it'd stop then a couple weeks later get a full on one. I had one that lasted a few weeks a few cycles before they all stopped. And it's now been almost three months since I had my last period.

In and of itself I don't mind much cause I hate the things (though a bit less so since I got a cup a year ago or so) but I'm starting to worry if this means something is wrong. I'm between 'well, they've always been weird' to 'but it's three months' and 'but they've ALWAYS been nuts, isn't that odd?' and not sure what to do.

I don't take birth control in any format, no need for it as I've no sex life and don't intend to get one. I don't know if it could be at all related, but I've noted in the past year and a half or so that I've been getting gradually more hairy but it's nothing massive.

I don't like going to the doctors cause I don't like bugging them, and when it comes to stuff like this I'm petrified of anyone looking down there. And I don't want to do that unless I have to. But at the same time if there's something wrong I want to catch it - so I thought I'd ask other women.

comments

annoying hunger/cravings and no solution!

Posted by: pour-vrai.livejournal.com

So for the past week-ish I've been experiencing my main PMS/period symptom, which is ravenous hunger. This time around it's particularly annoying. Nothing in my kitchen or from Taco Bell will hit the spot or scratch the itch right. What I mean by that is I think there's something that, if eaten, will satisfy my very ambiguous craving, but I can't pinpoint it. At 10:30 tonight I ran out for naked strawberry poptarts and followed those up with a bit of pepper jack cheese.

Am I deficient in some nutrient? I can't even figure out what I want, there's no obvious trend to what I've been eating to try to satisfy the craving, so there's not even that as a potential indication. Today my boyfriend had me try a beer his boss homebrewed, and when I said it tasted metallic he said that could mean I'm low in iron. (I say it was the beer, but the comment did get me thinking about why all the cravings are going on.)

ARRGGHH any thoughts? please? Tell me what to eat! I'm off to root around for pickles...

comments

Period 'waiting' for you to go home.

Posted by: herminia.livejournal.com

This may sound crazy, but ever since I moved away to college four years ago, I've noticed that my period will sometimes 'wait' a few days past its anticipated arrival date if my body 'knows' that I'm going home to my parents' house for the weekend. Has anyone else ever noticed this?

My period is about 1-2 days late (and I am sexually active - I always always always use condoms, but my body can't handle any form of HBC I've ever tried, so condoms are it) and I'm a little nervous. I am heading home tomorrow, though, so I wonder if my period will show up when I am in a low-stress environment.

I was also involved in a very minor car accident in mid-February (a day or three before I was supposed to start ovulating) and injured my neck and back (not severely, but I experienced moderate levels of pain for about one week - February 15-22). I wonder if this might have delayed ovulation or might be delaying my period now.

comments

Can sex delay a period for a few days?

Posted by: aufjedenfall.livejournal.com

I have a crazy question. First of all, I am—let’s see—approximately 97% certain that I’m not pregnant, since my boyfriend and I use condoms religiously. On Monday, I had the type of building/worsening cramps that always precede my period and was sure that my period would start within 24 hours based on the intensity of my pain. On Monday night, my boyfriend and I had sex and my cramps went away. My cramps haven’t returned to the same intensity yet, 36 hours later. Can sex delay a menstrual period by a few days (by somehow defusing cramps or releasing certain hormones or I don't even know what)?

My cycle is usually between 32 and 36 days long, so I should expect my period somewhere between Monday and Friday of this week… I’m not late yet.

comments

Seasonique and the perpetual period

Posted by: xprivate-eyex.livejournal.com

Hello folks. I've been on Seasonique birth control pills for about a year and a half now. I've had some weirdness as far as the period goes - sometimes I get it and it lasts 3 days, sometimes I get it and it lasts a couple weeks, sometimes I don't get it at all for months at a time. I never seem to get it during the "yellow pills" week at the end of the 3 month pack like I'm supposed to.

In December at my appointment I asked my gynocologist if it was normal to not get my period at all while on Seasonique and she said yes, so I didn't let it worry me any further.

In mid-January I got my period and I was like, "Oh hello there period," since I hadn't had it since probably September and thought nothing of it. But it's now the end of February and my period is still with me. It's been 5 weeks though it stopped for 3 days after about 3 weeks, but then started up again.

It goes from being bright red, "normal" looking blood to the "I'm a sign of the end of your period!" brownish blood. Like, it goes back and forth between the two. And the last couple days there have been clumps, though there haven't been any really at all the whole time.

Basically I'm going crazy with period overdose. Does anyone have any idea what on Earth is happening?!

comments

C'ell and Menstrual Stem cells - looking for info outside their website
