im going to the GYN tomorrow for the first time. Im not really that worried about the exam, just kind of nervous but thats to be expected. Im basically going because i get really really bad cramps that i cant cope with and since in the fall im (finally) going away to college, i dont want to have to deal with it while im away. I know that she will most likely put me on birth control, but the thing is that im horrible with taking pills. I dont want the shot, but ive been wondering if the birth control patch would do the same thing basically as the regular pill would. Of course im going to ask her about this, but since this is a very informed community i figured that i would ask here and see if anyone knew anything. thanks.

The Ortho patch is very much comparable to Ortho Cyclen in its effects.

Though, and this is of course only my opinion, I hated the patch. It wouldn't stay put and it got that nasty black ring of crap you get with bandaids and, well, I'm not all about having a big sticker on my ass or my shoulder or whatever. So I went back to the pill after a couple weeks.

hm. we'll have to see. my psychiatrist just put me on topomax so i'll have to take that every night. so maybe taking the pill wont be that bad. and i can totally understand about the ring of black crap. i hate that with bandaids. i'll have to talk to her tomorrow about it.

my sister is also on topomax and when she first went on it the doc asked her if she was on any BC and she wasnt but the doc said some BC doesnt work well w/ topomax so make sure ur GYN knows about it so it can be planned accordingly. :o)

yeh, i'll definitely make sure that she knows the medication im on. im deathly afraid of mixing medications and having complications due to that.

ok, so i confirmed w/ my sister about the topomax thing. she said its not so much the BC thats the problem but rather the BC decreases the effects of the topomax so u'd probably have to increase ur dosage (she's a chemistry major and knows a fair amount about this) so whenever you go see ur neurlogist (sp?) tell them ur on BC. sorry if i'm like getting way too involved..just trying to help. :o)
