hi i'm new here and have a kind of quirky question.

does anyone know when a good time to change your tampon is? i read the instructions in the box and it says every 6-8 hours, but sometimes before that time, i'll start "leaking" so i go to change the tampon anyway. then there are other times where it's going on ways past 8 hours and there's no leakage. but regardless of when i take the tampon out, it sort of still looks the same--streaked with blood (not soaked, like i expect it to be). am i doing something wrong? how can i tell when it's time for a change?

I don't think yer doing anything wrong. When I start to leak I definitely change it. And on my lighter days, I'll usually go a pretty long time without changing it.

I say, if you think you need to change, then go ahead. It won't hurt you. :]

When I used tampons I could kind of feel when I needed to change it. The tampon would move down a bit when it was full and I could feel it pushing down. During my light days I would just change it every 8 hours or so since it wouldn't fill up.

because of the risk of TSS, i never go longer than 8 hours, whether or not i leak. you don't always have to wait til you start to leak. and like it's been said already, i can kinda tell when i need to change. it does move down a bit.

if you're going to keep using a condom, don't leave it in for 8 hours!! that's so scary. even if you don't saturate it w/ blood, tampons are still absorbing all the natural fluids that keep your vagina healthy & bacteria-free. besides increasing your risk for TSS they also put you at higher risk for cancer, bacterial infections, and yeast infections. avoiding those is worth changing the tampon!

I get really paranoid with tampons in so I change mine like every 4-5 hours

please don't wear a tampon longer than 6-8 hours! if your tampon is at all "dry" when you remove it after 6-8 hours, you need to go to a lighter absorbency. i have had TSS twice (once from tampons, once after childbirth). it's scary shit.
