I know they say that if you have a yeast infection, you should use pads instead of tampons. Do you think that applies to cups, too? I'm assuming it's about the same because it's still something for germies to breed on . . . but hey, if there's some special germ-repelling property of latex or silicone or that stuff they make Instead from, let me know!

I actually can't figure out whether I'm infected or not; I've been having slightly clumpy, maybe kind of curd-like white discharge on an irregular basis, and occasional itching. My mom's been saying that as long as it doesn't smell or become dark, I should be fine with lots of fluids, but I can't help but wonder. Am I being paranoid, or I should I insist on seeing a gynecologist soon, before my period hits in the next few days?

I suspect it's probably far easier to treat the infection before your period starts, if you've got one, rather than when you're already flowing.

Interestingly, usually flow flushes out the system and any infection that may have been there tends to disappear.

I'm not condoning waiting, just putting that out there. :)

I've heard that the blood flow makes the vagina an unpleasant enviornment for yeasties, so if you've only got a mild infection, it might clear up with your period. I'd wait and see and go to the gyn after your period, if you still need to.

I think the main reason you aren't supposed to wear tampons if you have a yeast infection is because tampons absorb everything around them in the environment of the vagine and this disturbs the natural environment. I think absorbant is the key there though. Cups like the Instead or the keeper etc might be less bothersome during said infection because they are completely non absorbant. They just collect what is in there. These are my guesses anyway :)
