*waves hello*
Jul. 27th, 2003 01:49 amGreetings Ladies,
I'm new here, having followed a link from the journal of my dear friend, theartemisiaway. A little about me: I'm 23, from Cheshire (England), and live with my fiance and two kitties :)
I can't remember when I started my period; It was over ten years ago, I know. I think I was about 11 or 12, certainly no more than that. In any case, I'm always plagued by incredibly sore breasts for the week before and first few days of my period. They're sore even for me to touch. Does anyone else find this?
I also seem to have 4 or 5 days of heavy flow, followed by one or two light. Any my lower back kills me. Again, if anyone experiences the same I'd love to know: sometimes I feel I'm on my own here!
Finally, can anyone recommend any good books/websites (etc) about menstruation? Thanks!
Anyways, I'm looking forward to getting to know you all here. *hugs*
Blessings,
Heathwitch

Date: 2003-07-27 07:57 am (UTC)To answer your first question: YES, having sore breasts before your period and even during is normal as can be. Sometimes mine get so sore it hurts to even touch them as well or even just walk fastly down the steps! lol I have to go down steps from my room at home and one time it actually hurt when I walked down the steps because they were so tender and sore! But yes, that is normal and you're not on your own.
I usually have 3 days of really heavy flow and then on the 4th and 5th days it is really light. I usually never bleed over 5 days but there seems to be a little spotting on the 6th day from when I started. I suffer from PMS really badly and I have horrible low back pain. I usually experience lower back pain a week or two before and also during my period. It is so aggravating so I just take some pain relievers or a menstrual relief pill that I found at Rite-Aid. It works wonders!
I do not know any good books or websites from the top of my head. There is one I know of which is www.noperiod.com which contains some information.
Anyway, I hope that this has helped you some and that you enjoy being here in the hut! Again welcome and I hope you start feeling better!

Date: 2003-07-28 06:48 am (UTC)I've heard caffeine can be a factor in breast soreness (mine aren't that bad so I have not been willing to forgo my morning coffee to find out).
My favorite writings on menstruation are the relevant chapters in Inga Muscio's "Cunt: A Declaration of Independence" and Natalie Angier's "Woman: An Intimate Geography."

Date: 2003-07-29 12:22 pm (UTC)I don't drink coffee, but do have masses of pepsi, so I tend to cut down around the time of my period, just in case. I'd actually heard the same about caffeine and breasts, but I'd forgotten, so thanks for the reminder!
And thanks for the book suggestions too, I'll have to root those out of the local library or something. I'm currently reading "The Wise Wound" and finding it fascinating :)
