Tampons and pads have been irritating the living hell out of my *ahem* area. Have any of you used GaldRags or sea sponge tampons? And if so, what are your thoughts on them? Annoying? Budget saving? Worth it? Etc?

Well before I made my own pads to see if the idea would work. I simply cut a towel into sections that were long enough to be folded 3 or 4 times. I have a heavy cycle for two days. It worked perfectly. I like the pieces of towels when I am at home. They are very easy to rinse and make sure all the blood is out. The pads are easy enough to make and there are simple instructions all over the net.

I'm happy with glad rags, but I'll make my own before I buy more. I actually have the flannel, too, I just haven't bothered sitting down to *do it*.

I use the sea sponge sometimes, but I find that since it's so pliable that it's prone to leaking. If I laugh, giggle, or sneeze, blood squirts out. Since I tend to practice my Kegels by habit unconsciously, I leak then, too. I don't mind, since I generally only use them at home and I always have on a minipad or cloth pad, too, but it could be annoying for someone else.

i use sponges. i think they're lovely. i honestly feel more crampy and i have a heavier flow when i use tampons. the sponges are just more...friendly, for a lack of a better word.

my only problem has been that you have to get them wet to insert them, and sometimes, right after i put it in, if i sneeze, it squeezes some water out, but just a little...and it dries in a few minutes, it was just kind of disorientating the first time it happened.

other than that, i love them! i've saved quite a bit of money (i ordered 4), and i'm not polluting! w00t for responsible menstruation! let us know what you decide on!

sponges actually aren't that eco-sound because of the initial harvesting of them from the ocean...

The budget savings is the least of my reasons for loving the sponge. I find it way, way, way more comfortable than tampons (and have never had the leakage problem some describe). I don't like the Glad Rags i bought b/c they seem not-so-soft and not absorbent enough, but I love the cloth (flannel/terry) rags I bought from Hag Rag (http://www.hagrag.bigstep.com/).

I've never leaked either, and my sponges are tiny, maybe slightly over an inch across -- if that. Oh, and they're very comfy, though I just use drugstore ones I've boiled and cut to shape.
