I'm currently experiencing the heaviest period I've ever had. It's my first post-abortion period, so I'm not freaked out by the amount of blood (they told me that might happen). However, the amount of flooding I've experienced has made me want to consider other sanitary options. I'm looking into the diva cup. Does anyone here use it? Is it hard to remove without blood flowing everywhere? I'm also having an IUD inserted a week from monday, is there any suction involved that might affect that once it's in?

Is there really any difference between the Keeper, diva cup and moon cup? Or is it just different brands? Thanks for any replies!

I have a Divacup and a copper IUD and I've experienced no problems. I love the Divacup! I never had any spilling when removing it even when it was almost completely full. Be sure to ask your Gyn though about using it with the IUD. I might suggest holding off on using the Diva cup for a few months after having the IUD inserted just so that you can see how your body adjusts to the IUD. If you are going to expel the IUD (even though this is pretty rare) it is most likely to be during your first 3 periods after having it inserted.

I use a DivaCup and its brilliant. I have an extremely heavy flow, and it keeps me 100% dry.

THe Keeper and Mooncup are essentially the same thing, except the Mooncup is made of silicone. The DivaCup is also made of silicone, but it doesn't have as long a stem as the Keeper or Mooncup, and its stem/base is ridged so its easier to grab when removing. It appears just on visual that the actual 'cup' part of the DivaCup is bigger than the Keeper, but as far as I know, both hold the exact same number of fluid ounces, so it probably just mind-play.(?)

Insertion/removal is tough to get the first few times, but you'll get it down pat soon enough. If you're not already, be prepared to become extremely comfortable with your menses because you will have blood covered hands. Hm... that's all I can think of for now, beyond little anecdotal things like, I always thought my menstrual blood was *thicker* than it actually is. And that my period appears to be a lot shorter in length than it is when I use tampons/pads.
