hello-
i have been skipping my period by not taking the sugar pills on my birth control. now i seem to have a very slow trickle of blood coming out of me every day. enough to stain underwear, but usually not enough to stain pants. i take my pills pretty regularly, but not at the exact time every day. does anyone know why this might be happening? should i waste money on a pregnancy test?

I used to skip placebos and every 3 or 4 months, my body would just have a period whether i skipped them or not. How long have you been skipping your placebos? I just started "planning" a period once every three months and didn't have the spotting anymore after that.

Most people who skip periods for a long time tend to have some bleeding after a while. Sometimes your body just needs to get out what's there and it will do it whether you try to keep it from doing it or not. Most recommendations are to blleed every two to three months.

Well, are you bleeding during the time you should be taking placebos? If so, it's likely a period trying to start. It's really hard to gauge the risks when you are supressing your cycle. I would say if this is the time when you should be on the placebos, just take the placebos and see what happens. Your body may need to shed your linings or something. If you are worried, go see your Doctor. Breakthrough bleeding isn't usually a sign of pregnancy as far as i know, though.

skipping periods just doesn't work for everyone, and not for every pill. i'm on a relatively high dosed monophasic pill (sounds ideal, doesn't it) but when i skipped my period once it only worked for the week i should have bled, then i experienced increasing spotting for 3 weeks.

*nods* I've been on a number of different pills in the past 10 years and I've never had much luck skipping. I usually just start bleeding about two weeks into the second pack. Not worth it to me. I'm not taking anything right now but the last time I did I would just postpone it for a week or two on special occasions (wink wink). I always had a pack on hand that I could draw an extra week or two from. Something to consider if skipping months on end doesn't work for you.
