i went to my regular doctor yesterday to have her look at my foot for something. after i got that taken care of, i thought," i'm here, so why not discuss my period?" and that's excatly what i did. she said no gyno until i'm 18 because my irregularity is normal. when i told her about the cramps she prescribed me Naproxen 250mg dosage. :DDDD she was sorry that my cramps were that bad, and i should take 1 pill first and wait at least 2 hours to take another if it persists. i feel really lucky to have her... she's so great :D she said the BCP isn't for me yet because i'm not sexually active, and my periods aren't that badly irregular.

i hope this stuff works... do any of you take/have taken this too, and does/has it work(ed)?

i am at peace with my uterus ^___^

Naproxen is just the generic name for Aleve, and for my cramps, it's a wonder drug.

I'm glad your doctor didn't think your irregularity is something that requires fixing. In teens, it's quite normal, and even in adults, it isn't always a sign that something's wrong and needs to be fixed, it's just inconvenient.

Lots of general physicians can do gynecology, too, one needn't necessarily go to a gynecologist for pelvic exams.

I'm not sure about a pediatrician (I've had the regular family doctor for a while now) but normal general practioner (not sure of the term) doctors can do pelvic exams and pap smears for you.

General physicians can. Pediatricians *can* (they have to, as kids sometimes need them) but they tend not to do very many, so I wouldn't expect one to, and I'll bet that most of them don't have the office set up to do a proper pelvic exam.

But my general family physician does almost all of my gynecology.

I enjoy the Naproxen. I enjoy the Naproxen a lot. Make sure to take it with food!

That was my only warning too. :) I have 600 mg pills for my back, and made the mistake of taking one with just water. It f*ed me up bad. Had to be half-carried to my room to sleep it off.

I guess I am the only one with a less positive remark...sorry.
I have taken Aleve in the past for my cramps and it worked better than Ibuprofen for a little while, now it just upsets my stomach (even when I take it with food) and it doesn't help my cramps anymore. Now I do realize that my cramps might need more serious treatment, and for less severe cramps, Naproxen/Aleve works for some people, so I hope it does work for you...but make sure you really eat a full meal before taking it. I can't take Ibuprofen or Aleve anymore without heartburn/indigestion. And I barely take Aspirin.
I hope the Naproxen helps you!

I love naproxen sodium, that's what I have as well. Aleve itself doesn't do anything for me - but the higher dosage in my prescription naproxen works fairly well. And the fact that I can take a second one sooner than 12 hours later! I don't have problems with it even if I don't take it with food, too...

I'm glad you finally have some way to combat cramps.

If my doctor would have tried to give me that though, I would have killed him. But anyway, I'm so terribly irregular and my periods are so severe he gave me birth control. I got my first period yesterday on them, and oh my god do birth control pills work great! I'm bleeding much lighter, and I'm not doubling over and crying from my cramps. Gone are in my incapacitated days! Yes!
