Taking certain types of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can double the risk of developing breast cancer, says a study of more than a million women.

My mom is on HRT for about a year and a half, and plans to continue taking it until otherwise directed. She talked to her gyno about it (who happens to be my gyno also) and apparently the gyno said not to worry about it. So she's not worrying about it. *shrugs*

Similarly, my Mom had much more serious problems when she went off her HRT last year...her blood pressure shot up through the roof, she was shaking, and fainting and so on. Her gyno (who used to be mine, and whom I really like) told her that it was better for her to stay on it than go off it.

Much like any medication, it's a personal decision, where one has to weigh the benefits and side effects and the impact that it has on one's life. I know I'd love to be off of some of my asthma medication because I don't like the side effects, but the benefits of being on it far outweigh the side effects.
