Jul. 16th, 2001 04:47 pmhas only one used a sponge?
i was rereading cunt the other day
and i remembered that a sponge was intriguing and i might use it.
if its not to hard.
or the keeper thing that opacous was speaking of.
pads, even 100% natural coton ones are getting to much for me.
expensive.
and seems i buy a bag every month.
trying to economize

or
pandoraspads.com
are good places to start. Or to a web search for cloth menstrual pads. I love mine! They are very comfortable.
Sponges
Date: 2001-07-16 02:07 pm (UTC)1) They contain nonoxynol-9, some women (like me) are very sensitive to the spermicide and tend to get bladder infections easier (like me)
2) Two, make sure you have someone who is willing to help you get it out if it gets stuck in there. I had that happen to me. Luckily, my partner isn't squeamish about such things.
wait ... which sponges?

Date: 2001-07-16 04:39 pm (UTC)I'm up for 20 questions! ;)
Date: 2001-07-16 07:32 pm (UTC)when my flow is heavy, I rinse it more often, in cold water, then put it back in. I rinse mine in public bathrooms all the time ... you can be pretty surruptitious if you want to, and if anyone asked, I'd just tell them exactly what I was doing and that would prolly shut them up.
I like mine ... no pad-bunching, no itchy cotton or pseudo-cotton, just a nice little sea sponge ... I think if you do a search on the web for Sea Pearls you should find them.
I really like them ... they don't dry me out, they don't bother me, I can still go pantiless if I need/want to... and they aren't that much trouble to get in/out as long as you aren't dry when you try to put it in.
I really like mine... I really do :) I hear the Keeper lasts even longer though. I might try one of those at some point....

Date: 2001-07-18 03:43 am (UTC)unlike sponges/tampons, the keeper doesn't disrupt the natural (moist) environment of the vagina. and it's lower maintenance (and less likely to cause leaks/diaper rash) than reusable pads, even.
i'd also recommend that you give INSTEAD (http://www.ultrafem.com/) softcups a try before you go for the keeper. i *love* INSTEADs; i just wish they weren't so wasteful!
