Oct. 20th, 2003 09:38 pmTook the advice of another menstrualhut member and bought a bottle of probiotic pills today from GNC (chewable raspberry, yum!) that pretty much equal the amount of total bacteria the nasty antibiotic pills are killing. So hopefully I'll notice a difference in a few days. I'm very tempted to not take the antibiotic anymore, though I've only been on it since Friday night. I do feel much better, and they mess with my system so badly... we'll see.
Period is still incredibly light to downright M.I.A., though the backackes are still in full swing :-(

Date: 2003-10-21 01:47 am (UTC)When I went to stock up on probiotics before starting this new course, I was told that stomach acid kills the beneficial bacteria before it can make it into the gut, so was told to get the kind that comes in capsules that don't dissolve until they get to the intestines. Enteric-coated, I believe it's called. Can't check, because they're at home and I'm not.
The stomach acid thing probably explains why eating all that yogurt and sucking down the liquid stuff never helped me a whole lot, and is likely why I still have the infection hanging on two years later, even though I took tons of acidophilus. Bad stomach acid!
If you still notice a problem after taking the chewable stuff, try the enteric-coated capsules.
