Took the advice of another menstrualhut member and bought a bottle of probiotic pills today from GNC (chewable raspberry, yum!) that pretty much equal the amount of total bacteria the nasty antibiotic pills are killing. So hopefully I'll notice a difference in a few days. I'm very tempted to not take the antibiotic anymore, though I've only been on it since Friday night. I do feel much better, and they mess with my system so badly... we'll see.

Period is still incredibly light to downright M.I.A., though the backackes are still in full swing :-(

please please please finish out the prescribed course of antibiotics even if you feel better...if you don't finish up the whole course of antibiotics, the last few bad bacteria left still alive in your body are the very strongest ones. those hang around in your body and reproduce and can eventually lead to antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria...which are NOT GOOD.

hope you feel better though...

I also got a bunch of probiotics because I was recently put on yet another course of antibiotics and always get terrible yeast infections. In fact, I still have remnants of the last one from when I took penicillin a couple of years ago.

When I went to stock up on probiotics before starting this new course, I was told that stomach acid kills the beneficial bacteria before it can make it into the gut, so was told to get the kind that comes in capsules that don't dissolve until they get to the intestines. Enteric-coated, I believe it's called. Can't check, because they're at home and I'm not.

The stomach acid thing probably explains why eating all that yogurt and sucking down the liquid stuff never helped me a whole lot, and is likely why I still have the infection hanging on two years later, even though I took tons of acidophilus. Bad stomach acid!

If you still notice a problem after taking the chewable stuff, try the enteric-coated capsules.
