i have been looking around, and i can' t seem to find out if the patch would be right for me... it just talks about preventing pregnancy, which wouldn't be an issue with me. what i would like it for is cycle regulation, because honestly, i am tired of these "surprises". i'd also forget to take a pill everyday. the weekly idea sounds much better to me, and is compatible with my nearly nonexistent memory.

so i guess what i'm asking is, do you think a gyno would prescribe the patch to me, even though i would just have it for menstrual regulation and not birth control? (because, at this point in my life, i have no boyfriend or anything, so sex & becoming pregnant isn't an issue).

Oh, I bet he or she would. I mean, they do that with BCP so why not? It's worth asking.

I bet so

For me, I sought out hormonal BC for the dual reasons of a) didn't want to be pregnant and b) my period would come totally at random. I mean I was REALLY irregular..like, I would get one every 30 - 60 days. I would go two months having one every thirty days, then get the next one 45 days later, then 30 days later, then 60 days later....etc. Totally random.

Anyway, my gyn sent me home with the Patch and now I get them every 4th Wednesday between 6 pm and midnight. It's a dream.

So I bet you could get it for that purpose too!

i haven't tried the patch but as i recently posted, i REALLY like nuvaring. you don't have to worry about forgetting and it works the same as pills or the patch - just giving you a steady dose of hormones. i haven't gotten any breakthrough bleeding with the ring like i did with the pills.

i'd give a nuvaring to my sixteen year old! i wish i had had it then so i wouldn't have done all the crazy stuff with pills i would do and then get all freaked out about maybe being pregnant and not eating and all that jazz. girls have enough to worry about, and teenagers always go sleep at other people's houses and in other places and have to remember to bring pills. guys think it's so easy to remember and they're always like 'how could you forget!' but i was on the pill for like 7 years and it never got easier. go nuvaring!

I can't think of any reason a doctor wouldn't prescribe a nuva ring for a 16 year old (unless she had a specific medical condition that would be aggrevated by it).

Well the patch would regulate your cycle, I'm pretty sure that's what all hormonal birth control does (maybe not intentionally, but they just happen to).

I am on the patch and like it mostly... only thing is you have to find a good spot so that it doesn't peel off (it gets frustrating).

And I'm sure they'd prescribe you the patch OR the nuvaring, I don't see why they wouldn't.

Good luck. :)
