Hi, I'm new to LJ but in the short while I've been here, I've been doing a lot more looking around than posting. I've decided it's time, and this is the first community I'm posting in. Obviously I'm a guy, but menstruation fascinates me, as do many things about the female body and mind. I hope this will turn out to be an interesting community and hey, I'm always up for learning new things. :)

Date: 2003-11-02 08:21 am (UTC)The basic rules are simple here.. any civil, non-insulting discussion of menses and women's health / reproductive / sexuality issues in general.

I'm not much of an internet user and am quite oblivious to a lot of the stuff out in the cyber world, but my roommate was hooked up and kept sending me links from the menstrualhut and to make a long story short I joined LJ to see things for myself. I am particularly interested in bringing the spiritual side back to women's menses and sexual healthcare. I think we hate ourselves and our periods too much these days. Anyway, I am curious about your choice to begin this community and hope I am not breaking any boundary taboos. Thanks!

Date: 2003-11-02 10:08 am (UTC)My girlfriend and I were surfing the Museum of Menstruation site ( http://mum.org/ ) a few years back, and I got to thinking that a community focusing on the same topic would be useful and interesting. After looking and not finding anything at the time, I founded the hut. I'm interested in the subject, so it was win-win.
It's grown by so many leaps and bounds, now, with many regular contributors and readers... far more successful than I'd initially imagined!

Date: 2003-11-02 10:18 am (UTC)It was a shock to me that nobody else had made one on the same topic that was easily accessible.
There are a large number of other women's special-interest communities now, and it feels good that this one may've had some small part in the formation of those, as well.
I've been very blessed by folks here that are genuinely inquisitive and helpful, and *very* few trolls have come through.
