this is a strange question, but here goes...

when im on my period, i used plastic applicator tampons and panty liners. this generates a lot of trash, and i dont have a trash can in my bathroom to put this trash in, so i usually put everything in the trashcan in my room.

even if i had a trashcan in the bathroom, i wouldnt want to put my used tampon applicators and panty liner wrappers and such sitting there for everyone to see. i dont really like leaving that all out there, especially when my boyfriend is over.

does anyone have a solution? ive tried having a separate trash bag in my room, but it isnt very pleasant for someone to find a bag full of bloody pads and applicators either. im too scared to try something that doesnt generate trash, like the keeper, so im kind of lost on what to do.

Get a pack of brown paper bags, and keep them in the bathroom. You can put your used menstrual products in one of those, and no one would have to see. They'd only see the brown paper bags, and you could empty it as you please.

Wrap them in a layer of bathroom tissue before throwing them away. Then it just looks like....a blob of bathroom tissue.

Yeah I always just wrap stuff in TP. It would never occur to me that people *don't* do that, actually... you mean some people just leave them there sitting around for the world to view??

another solution is to get a little garbage can with a lid. i've seen really small ones - they're round with a sort of dome-shaped lid, just like the fancy big kind, but small and plastic. sorta like the ones here (http://www.org-etc.com/bathwastecans.html), though the ones i've seen are a little different (nicer, i think). anyhow, that way your trash isn't on display :)

I don't mean this in an offensive or critical way. But get a trash can and put it in your bathroom and get over being ashamed of menstruation. Sure, you could always just wrap everything you throw away in paper bags or TP, but why should anyone have to create so much extra waste to hide something that doesn't need to be hidden in the first place?

I understand that it's kind of an icky and sometimes embarrassing thing to deal with, but it shouldn't be, and I don't think you should feel like it's something you have to hide. I mean, you know, you're a big girl; everyone knows you menstruate.

yeah, you're right. its not like i feel ashamed for being on my period, it was more of a practical thing of not having a bloody mess around that can be gross to look at.

There are lots of trashcans with lids, so unless a visitor happens to throw something away while in your bathroom, they'll never know what's in there. And most guys don't use a bathroom trashcan.

The more awkward part, for me, was convincing my boyfriend (when we didn't live together) to put a trashcan in *his* bathroom.

I use the keeper now, but before, I flushed my tampons, and my pads/liners came individually wrapped, so I'd wrap the used on in the wrapper of the new one. My mom has an old Sears catalogue that she keeps in the bathroom and tears pages out of to wrap her tampons. My toilet has worked just as well as hers :P

Actually, now that I think of it, her non-flushing habit probably comes from the days before the toilet was replaced and we did't even risk doing number 2 in that toilet because it was obstructed with a toothbrush she'd flushed in a silly fight with my dad. It's so weird now thinking that when I was little, all guests had to be warned about shitting in the downstairs toilet.
