In regards to the last two posts I decided to make this visible for all to see.

Here are some methods for abating the pain:

Calcium (milk, yogurt)
Caffine (or niacin)
Dark colored fruit (plums, blueberries)
Exercise (only temporary)
Relaxation
Hot water bottle on tummy

Really bad pain:

I've found that filling the bath tub with warm water and getting in, and just lying in the there and floating is very nice. The water offers a zero-gravity environment which can also be beneficial.

And... if none of these works - find yourself a mild muscle relaxer or a large amount of the pain killers of your choice. I go with a strong Aleve myself.

And [livejournal.com profile] miaokitty, in regards to your sister taking the heavy drugs - no it isn't a good thing, but sometimes... it gets just that bad.

Interesting fact: women in the United States, Canada, Australia - and progressively developing countries are the only countries that have women that develop menstrual cramps. There are some cultures that don't even have a name for what we experience.

Um. Personally, I exercise a lot, and I still get sometimes-incompacitating cramps. I'm fairly sure it's related to nutrition for me, but I can't buy that all non-developing countries have perfect nutrition. I suspect it has more to do with early childbearing.

Personally, I find caffeine just makes me ache.

I like to stick with ol' faithful - cannabis - does the trick every time.

We are not alone

Just the fact that other languages/cultures dont have a name for menstrual pain doenst mean they dont have it. It could just as likely mean they do not pay attention to it or even refuse their womenfolk of even admitting they have the luxury of having monthly cramps etc. It would be interesting to see exactly what cultures these are and how women are generally treated in them. Also interesting would be how many pregancies women have there......if theyre pregnant or nursing all the time, guess how many periods they actually have?
