Hmmm... I should really go see a gyno, I guess. I'm 19, not sexually active and in a longterm relationship. I don't have any std's that I know of, but i guess i should get checked out anyway. My GP said I might want to consider BC for my cramps, as well as for contraceptive purposes (once I can actually manage to have sex with my boyfriend ;) Auntie Flo made her appearance yesterday)

Any advice on how to choose a gyno?

Thanks. This community rocks! :)

If you have friends that already go to the gynecologist, ask if they like their gynecologists. You can ask your regular doctor; they usually have a gynecologist they refer to. You can also get a recommendation from your local Planned Parenthood for local practitioner and then check with your insurance to make sure the one you want is covered.

Your general practitioner can also perform pelvic exams and prescribe birth control. You don't have to go to a gynecologist if you feel comfortable with your regular doctor doing those exams on you.

depending on what type of practitioner your doc is you may be able to get your gynecological care directly from her. Otherwise, unless you got some reccomendations of someone you hope to go to, your health insurance plan people can usually reccomend a doc who will give you maximum coverage meeting any other requirements you might have (like whether you want a male or female doc) assuming you have insurance and all
