Hi newbie here. I got my fist period on monday and I am half exited and half nervous of how this will go from now on but it is pretty good so far, I had some pretty bad cramps but I a okay. I want to buy lunapads but I don't know how I would ask my mom (I am in grade 7). We don't talk that much. umm that is all.

Ooh! Congrats! :)

If you can't get your Mum to buy them online (they seem great - I want some too!) you might be able to use a money order. If you're able to sew though you can always make your own reusable pads! There are patterns around the place and they don't seem too hard.

in my most humble opinion. get used to your period first!! give it about two to three more months before you can really figure out how it will be. because you really should know what kind of flow you have before you go ordering products. You dont wanna end up having a heavy period, but have pads for a light flow, or a light flow, but end up with bulkier heavy flow pads. get what i'm sayin?

for the cramps: if you dont like taking meds or drinking teas, try some heating pads. the playtex heating pads and the thermacare heating pads are a godsend!!

once you get to know how your period will act with ya, then think up a well presented case to your mom about luna pads. show her the website and tell her why you are so into the idea of them. let her see that this is something you are serious about and have really thought it through.

good luck with everything!!

ps. you picked a really good community to join btw.

Also, exercise helps cramps as it relaxes the cramping muscles. It doesn't sound too charming when you're in lots of pain but it does help.

I want to add how cool it is that you're exploring all of your options at such an early age. When I started my period, I didn't think twice about taking what my mom handed to me. Then again, there wasn't the internet yet.

But congrats on being an individual thinker!

I'm kinda late noticing your post, but i wanted to say congratulations. :) I wish that I had had your kind of open attitude when I first got my period.

When I first got mine, i was scared. Scared and insecure and all that crap. I'm glad to learn that not every girl feels so scared about their first period. :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of womanhood. Please pass the midol. :)
