Hi. I just found this community and am so happy I stumbled across it.

Just wondering how many of you out there use sea sponges? I've been using them for almost a year now and am so in love with them. But anyone who knows I use them gets positively disgusted. Just wanting to know what you're thoughts on them are...

I use mine all the time but combine them with Glad Rags when I'm bleeding heavily.

yeah, i mentioned it to my mom, and she looked at me like i had three heads.

even my gynecologist seemed a little puzzled..."wouldn't you rather just use a cup?" (the keeper, etc)

but i love sponges. they're wonderful. i don't get cramps, i don't get the tampon dryness, and best of all, i'm not contributing to tons of cottony waste anymore...w00t!

I feel the same way. Once I read about them in Cunt</i) I havent' looked back. Nor wanted to. I wish I could convert everyone. I just think sponges are the way to go.

i am all about reusable menstrual products in whatever form. but i don't use sponges, i prefer cloth pads & keepers. there's some interesting information about sponges here:

Very interesting. Thank you for sharing. My one point of contention with his information is that you shouldn't really boil the sponges. It reduces their absorbancy and wears them out much faster. I soak them in hot water and tea tree oil to kill bacteria and keep them clean between cycles.

i love my sponges! and they're the only thing i've found that let me have no-mess intercourse while i'm on my period. yay for sex...

I love my sponges, but can't use them on my first day because I have such a heavy flow.

I absolutely love the idea of them and plan to buy some natural sponges from a pharmacy to use as I can't order "proper" ones.

I've mentioned the idea of cups and sponges to my friends a few times and they always get completely grossed out. Same with reusable pads. *sigh*

*nods* Yeah, although I have to admit that I was grossed out about reusable menstrual pads for a while, though. I started with Insteads (disposable cups) in the mid-90s, and it wasn't until 2000 that I went ahead and got cups and pads and stopped being grossed out at the idea of them. Some people really just take time.
