[identity profile] wingedgirl.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] menstrualhut
Hi.:)
A friend of mine just suggested I peek in here, since I mentioned the troubles I've been having in my own LJ, so I thought I might introduce myself, and then, well, get on to said problems.;)
Basically, I used to be a really regular girl. 'Bout a month long cycle, and I'd know when I was about to start menstruating when I had a day of hissy fit. The period itsself would last me two days on heavy(first day cramps), maybe three or four more of lighter stuff, then I'd go into my normal discharge(which happened quite according to the way I read it was supposed to.)
Then, all of a sudden, about six months ago, my cycle went irregular. I'd go without my period for several months at a time(and my emotions were just plain out of whack), then have a few days of light spotting, go without for a week or two, have a relatively normal period.. bizarre. Plus, where I used to always feel that little twinge of an egg being released, I haven't felt that for at least as long as I've been irregular. This time around, my period just won't stop. It's been almost four weeks. The discharge is normal red occaisionally, but most of the time it's this pasty red-brown, or watery speckled with brown, nothing like what it used to be.
Sufficed to say, I'm geting really worried. Has this happened to any of you, or have you ever heard of it? Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might have.:)

well, that has happened to me, but my period was always like that, out of control unless i was on the pill. i think you need to see your doctor. i feel like i keep telling people to see their doctors, but i promise, i'm not just saying that cause i'm a med student and i'm pro-doctor! i know going to the doctor is a scary thing for some people. there are just certain symptoms where you've gotta do it just to make sure there's nothing wrong. and symptoms like what you've got (it's called dysfunctional uterine bleeding or polymenorrhea) are some of those. get it checked out! i had the same problem and my doctor totally fixed me up. it's much better than bleeding forever and ever. note: i looked it up on some of my medical resources, and they said that often dysfunctional uterine bleeding is an accompaniment to not ovulating. so that makes sense with what you're saying! weird terminology, isn't it? like, antisocial uterus! dysfunctional body part!
