i was just put on ortho evra (yay!) and i love it very much.
the side effects were horrible at first but i think it was just a combination of the bad symptoms i get while menstruating.
although i have a question... my gyno said that it is very very normal to have spotting during the first few weeks, but this doesn't seem like spotting to me.
normally I have long, heavy periods, of at least 5.5-6 days. sometimes up to seven.

i put the patch on during the first day of my period.
i had super heavy bleeding (abnormally heavy) on days 1, 2, and 3.
i had normal (still considerable amount) bleeding on day 4.
i had no bleeding on day 5 or 6.
i had spotting (which i had expected) on days 7 and 8.
today is day 9, and i have a heavy flow of my period. my period is back again!??!

should i be worried?

also: SUPER IMPORTANT QUESTION!!!
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MUCH IRON I SHOULD BE TAKING DURING MY PERIOD OR NOT DURING MY PERIOD?
I REMEMBER GETTING A SHEET FROM HER SAYING SOMETHING ALONG THE LINES OF 500 or 1500 MGS A DAY!??! DOES THIS SOUND CORRECT???

any answers greatly appreciated.

whoa, 500 mg sounds like a hell of a lot - that has to be a mistake...

i believe around 15-18 mg is the amount your body needs every day...i doubt any supplements would have more than 18 mg per pill...and DEFINITELY don't take more than one 18 mg pill per day...overdosing on iron isn't a good idea (it's not like vitamin c and other water-soluble vitamins that your body can flush out fairly easily.).

anyhow, there's some info on medline that might be useful here: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/202305.html#SXX15

oh, and it just occurred to me - is it possible the 500 mg per day was calcium or something? 500 - 1500 mg sounds more reasonable for calcium supplements per day.

you know what i think you should do, is just get a women's multivitamin that has the 100% rda of iron. then you can just take that, that's a good idea for everyone to do, and instead of just having a supplement you'll have all the rest of those good things too. :-)
