Has anyone else noticed that the position of sitting on the toilet relieves cramps? Or is that just me? I love sitting there, it makes my poor swollen uterus feel so much better. Scared the boy when I sat there for half an hour though. ;)

sometimes, yes, but i've found that position can encourage hemorrhoids.

stretching helps me the most. so does avoiding waistbands. my recliner couch helps a lot, too.

Avoiding waistbands = Very, very true.

i wear dresses. ;)

or i wear skirts with very loose waistbands, drawstrings, etc. or bloomers with generous waist allowances.

and i really meant snug waistbands. baggy cargo pants generally make me happy that time of the month.

no control-top pantyhose, no girdles. those just make the pain worse.

sometimes a well-made corset (steel boning, overbust) will help because it doesn't put much pressure on my abdomen. sometimes it doesn't. my boobs are usually too sore for them during my period, though.

It's more tight waistbands than actual waistbands for me. And tight isn't even the right word for it... basically, try not to wear anything you can feel too much around your stomach.

In other words, BIG SWEATPANTS WORK GREAT! Ha. Mainly if you're just at home.

i have also found the "toilet position" to be comforting to the uterus when she's doing her thing... =) and something about regular chairs just doesn't cut it. don't know why that is.

i am also a fan of non-constrictive waist clothing. i have a pair of flannel snowflake-patterned pants that i am rarely out of when at home in the winter. and in summer, ditto for scrub pants. but then again, i am a university student, so i can get away with wearing anything.

i think its because you know you can bleed into the toilet. it just helps. always have good reading on hand tho ;D

as for waistbands... if i can feel it a lot, then i don't wear it. i look like one hell of a bum though lol

You're not weird at all. I personally want to be all curled up when I've got cramps, but a friend (she's a certified masseuse getting a masters degree in a bunch of stuff that includes acupuncture) recommend that instead of "bunching up" my body I stretch and stand up straighter. I don't normally do it because, initially, it hurts more. However, once I've started stretching up a lot (standing straight, arms above head, etc., I find that it feels much better. My friend told me that it's better for cramps to not curl in like that. You're not weird. You're being good to your body :-)

And, I don't know how true or not true it is that one way is better than the other. I've always perscribed to the "do what your body tells you to do" but I find that not doing what it tells me to do and stretching up instead of curling in is working better on cramps. So confused... so confused...

OMG, I do the toilet thing too. I thought I was the only one. Another thing that works is sitting on a little kids chair. You know, those tiny ones that are 5 inches off the ground. I don't know why, but it works. That and my Victoria's Secret pajama bottoms. Mmmm, flannel.

Yup I do that and also I lie on the cold tile of my bathroom floor. It helps.
