it has nothing to do with menstruation, but i'm hoping you ladies will have some ideas for me.

i have a hemmerhoid. i am miserable. it doesn't itch or burn, it HURTS. it's on the outside, i can see it, i know it's a hemmerhoid and not something else. they run in my family. i've been told to just put prep H on it and let it go, but it's not WORKING. it's angry.

now here's where you ladies come in. i'm trying to find a natural health website that's not trying to sell me anything that will give me some advice on how to fix this thing. or if any of you have been in this unfortunate situation, how did you handle it?

ANY advice is welcome...as i am absolutely miserable right now. happy holidays to all.

Ok, well, I knew someone who had a very bad problem with them, and they too complained about the topical stuff not working.
Baths slightly warmer than warm can help soothe the area.
If you wear thongs, those can also cause irritation.
I work in a pharmacy, and I've heard the pharmacist telling patients to get a bottle of Mineral Oil. And it's quite cheap. $2-3. Perhaps when you have a warm bath, put the bottle in the water so the oil will warm up. Then apply it after the bath.

However, if you're really into herbs and stuff, I have a site that's been in my favourites for awhile and they list this recipe:

HEMORRHOID WIPE

2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon powdered comfrey root
2 tablespoons aloe vera gel*
Witch hazel

Thoroughly combine honey, comfrey, and aloe vera gel in a small mixing bowl to make the salve. Using cotton balls, apply witch hazel liberally to the affected area. Using fresh cotton balls, cover the affected area with a thin layer of salve. Repeat as needed.

I forgot to mention that this person told me about having to push theirs back into the rectum after lubricating. I'm not sure where exactly yours is located, but consider asking a doctor or nurse about that.
Hope something helps.

i'm sorry i don't have advice, just the idea that asking in [livejournal.com profile] womenhealth or [livejournal.com profile] naturalmed might help, too.

hope it heals quickly!

i read somewhere that putting crushed garlic mixed with some olive oil on a pad and leaving it on that area for a few days (change the pad 3-4 times a day) makes it better. my friend tried it and said it worked, but i dont know how you'd feel about having stuff like that down there...

Hemme Help

As you may know a hemmoroid is a vericose vein in the rectum. People are telling you to use Preparation H because that is supposed to shrink it and make it feel better. Along with the topical herbal remedy that is listed above you may also try taking Horse Chestnut Extract. You will need to look for a brand that is standardized to contain aeschin at least 50 mg per dose. This herbal preparation is supposed to shrink the distended veins. I take it and some other supplements for vericose veins in the legs. I have deep ones in my legs. I think that people think of vericose veins and hemmoroids as diseases of the elderly, but I am only 30. Hope this helps.

For varicose veins in the legs Horse Chestnut is supposed to be as effective or more effective than compression stockings at shrinking the size of varicose veins. I have not been using the supplements long enough to see results, but I have several herb books and have read that Horse Chestnut is good for varicose leg veins and hemmoroids in all of them. You can get Horse Chestnut at the health food store, or from www.vitamincottage.com. Also, what paintmeperfect said about fibre is true too. Eating more fibre (as long as you also drink enough water) will cause your bowels to move more easily (less straining). If you eat the proper amout of fibre a day, (20-30 grams per day) and drink enough water you will find that your hemmoroid flares up less often once it is under control. Beware, if you eat a lot of fibre and don't drink enough water constipation insues.

I am glad to help if I can. I hope that you get better soon. I have been fortunate enough not to have the experience you are having now, but I have heard from others that it is very painful and annoying. Good health to you.

make sure you are getting lots of fibre in your diet... if not, you could be aggravating the hemorrhoid further.
