I'm kind of finding that my 'pons are sort of slipping down to where its a little uncomfortable...i'm not super loose or anything, so don't get THAT idea...but is that normal? should i up the thickness of it anyways? should i just keep pushing it up?

i'm not really a frequent tampon user, if you couldn't tell...i'm trying to ween myself off pads because 'pons are less annoying, except for this!

You may not be pushing them up high enough when you insert it. When my friends and I started using them, the ones who had problems like this found that by pushing them in higher they'd be ok. If you're using an applicator, you can put a little lube on the outside of the applicator to help insert it higher.

You don't want to use a higher absorbancy than you need because that increases the risk of toxic shock syndrom.

If you find that you're just not comfortable with tampons (which I'm not), but you still want something that can be inserted because of the convenience, you can look at menstrual cups (the DivaCup, the Keeper, the Mooncup, or Instead) or you can look at sea sponges.

The sea sponges sit very low, but you can't feel them at all. They're GREAT! The cups can be in longer, though (sponges need to be changed every 3 hours).

You may want to try changing the angle a bit whne you insert it, too (sorry, I forgot to mention that). Good luck!

Or sometimes, one brand fits better than another. It all depends on your body-I hate the tampons my Mom uses, and I'm sure she would never want to use the ones I do.

Ditto. I find that Tampax expands downwards in me, so after about an hour or two, they become really uncomfortable. I use the ob's without applicators. They're easy to adjust if I need to, too.

Yep. That's why I like the OB. In a pinch, the playtex are okay, but only until I can get home and get an OB or something.

i agree. i use sea sponges, but if i have to use a 'pon, i use ob or playtex. i used tampax forever, but they expand down in me, too, and frankly, there's nothing worse than feeling like your tampon is slipping out. the "cup" shaped ones are best for me, but after using sponges anything else kinda sucks.

why does using unnessicarily (sp) thick tampons increase your your risk? i didn't know this

I'm not sure why, but I have two guesses:

1. If you're using a thicker tampon than you need, you'll have to leave it in longer (it HURTS to pull a large, dry tampon out!). And the longer you leave a tampon in, the higher the risk.

2. If it's too large, it can make little tiny cuts inside that you won't feel.

As far as it goes, the tampon industry even admits it - if you read the literature that comes with tampons, they even say that the higher the absorbancy, the higher the risk of TSS. And they say they don't know why.

I don't prefer tampons either, but when I do use them I like to use Naturacare and Organic Essentials non applicator tampons. Since they are organic they are easier on the environment and safer for your body. You can purchase them on-line or at health food stores.

I don't think GNC has much besides vitamins and supplements. Try vitamin cottage, whole foods or wild oats.
