how in the heck do you insert a non-applicator tampon? my step-sis uses the OB kind, and i tried to use one once just to see what it was like. i found it to be impossible. it was awkward and painful, and i got blood all over my hand. i thought that using a lubricator might help to insert it, but wouldn't it coat the surface of the tampon to where it wouldn't absorb any blood? someone please help to educate me on this mysterious non-applicator phenomenon.

Yeah, no freaking kidding...I use sea-sponges and I seriously have to put them in a plastic tampon-applicator to insert them.

Every period, I just empty out a plastic OB applicator and use it during the week for my sponges...just wash the blood off with water each time. It works well!

But yeah, when I did use tampons (evil tampons), I couldn't use non-applicator ones. Hmm.

it is a little awkward until you get the hang of it, and you're definitely going to get blood on your hand doing it. that's just how it is with tampons that don't have applicators. they're made for people who don't mind sticking their fingers inside their bodies. ditto for sponges.

The only problem I've ever had with non-applicator tampons is that they seem to be quite...abrasive...when you insert them. ouchies. other then that, i like them much more. less bulky to carry around, less waste.

Same way I used to insert applicator tampons. If I'm home, I tend to insert them standing up, with one foot on the bathtub. Just kind of wiggle the string to widen the bottom, spread labia with one hand, reach down and insert the tampon, angled towards my back. I use my index finger, on the bottom of the tampon, to push it in. If I'm not at home, I usually do it sitting down, which isn't as comfortable, but not that difficult either. I do probably get a little bloodier than with an non-applicator tampon, but they're so much more comfortable in the long run.
