scary stuff.
Jan. 3rd, 2004 09:42 pmhi everyone! i was once a member here under another journal -- which one i forget. it's been awhile since i was here and i'm struggling with really painful periods and a couple weeks of bleeding.
my mother is really concerned that i might have endometriosis. she has had it and is recognizing a lot of the same symptoms she had. i'm really nervous about it, honestly.
i made an appt. to see my regular doctor as my gyn is on vacation right now.
i guess i should list my symptoms ... so here goes:
Pain.
Pelvic pain
Severe menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea)
Low backache 1 or 2 days before the start of the menstrual period
(or earlier), subsiding during the period
Rectal pain
Pain during bowel movements
Some vaginal bleeding before the start of the menstrual period
(premenstrual spotting). **before and after my period is when i have
it most!
like i said -- i`m really scared about this and i'm on the verge of a panic attack and slipping into depression as it is ...

Date: 2004-01-04 09:30 am (UTC)I went to my doctor, and he referred me to a gyno, who did a very quick examination and booked me in for a Laparoscopy. It's the surgery where they go in and burn off any growths. They did find some, and burnt them off, and my periods did remain painful, just not as bad.
Some women are stuck with painful periods unfortunately. But if the option of that surgery comes up, take it. It's very common, you're out of the hospital in the same day, and the recovery doesn't take long.
As someone mentioned above, painkillers are good. I find they don't help much, but they do help, especially if you start taking them every few hours a day or so before you're expecting your period.
Keep us posted on what's going on!
