hi everyone! i was once a member here under another journal -- which one i forget. it's been awhile since i was here and i'm struggling with really painful periods and a couple weeks of bleeding.

my mother is really concerned that i might have endometriosis. she has had it and is recognizing a lot of the same symptoms she had. i'm really nervous about it, honestly.

i made an appt. to see my regular doctor as my gyn is on vacation right now.

i guess i should list my symptoms ... so here goes:

Pain.
Pelvic pain
Severe menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea)
Low backache 1 or 2 days before the start of the menstrual period
(or earlier), subsiding during the period
Rectal pain
Pain during bowel movements
Some vaginal bleeding before the start of the menstrual period
(premenstrual spotting). **before and after my period is when i have
it most!

like i said -- i`m really scared about this and i'm on the verge of a panic attack and slipping into depression as it is ...

Going to your doctor to get checked out is the smartest move you can make. If it DOES end up being endometriosis, then there are treatment options that may prevent it from getting worse. If it isn't, you'll have at least one item off the list and can start looking at other issues and treatments.

Good for you for not letting your fear keep you from taking care of yourself.

like the first poster said go to the doctor get it all check out and be sure to get your hormone levels tested! I have batteled with this for the lat 5 years and basically have gotten the run around from all my doctors. be strong and assert yourself make them know you want this taken care of and not brushed aside and copped out with painkillers or a shotty rx for birth control!

You're experiencing symptoms that I had every month. At the same time though, I'd get hot flashes/cold sweats, I would feel all spaced out like I was going to pass out, and sometimes would because the pain was so strong. Sometimes I would throw up and I found that would help make the pain go away.
I went to my doctor, and he referred me to a gyno, who did a very quick examination and booked me in for a Laparoscopy. It's the surgery where they go in and burn off any growths. They did find some, and burnt them off, and my periods did remain painful, just not as bad.
Some women are stuck with painful periods unfortunately. But if the option of that surgery comes up, take it. It's very common, you're out of the hospital in the same day, and the recovery doesn't take long.
As someone mentioned above, painkillers are good. I find they don't help much, but they do help, especially if you start taking them every few hours a day or so before you're expecting your period.
Keep us posted on what's going on!
