i don't think there is much worse than having extreme cramps while you are trying to concentrate at work. i've taken 4 advil and have a heating pad on my abdomen, but still am fighting dropping to the floor and curling into a ball.

this happen to anyone else? any ideas about how to take my mind of the pain?

I actually take midol. It seems to do the trick (at least it gets me to the point where I don't want to cry and gut myself). I also use ThermaCare Menstrual Relief Pads. They stick to your panties which means they get closer than a heating pad. I know this doesn't solve your problem right now, but maybe for next month?

Orgasms are also supposed to help, but I don't think that will happen either considering your at work heh. Sorry I couldn't come up with a solution for right now :(

The heating pad (ThermaCare Menstrual Relief) usually works for me in under an hour.

Way to take your mind off it: go home :) Ok, so that isn't always an option... my advice is to just keep busy, or at least "look busy" while you wallow in all your female glory.

Hope ya feel better!

I called my doctor last month because I had cramps that were significantly higher than they had ever been. She sent a perscription to the pharmacy for me. However, if you do that, be sure to mention what you have already taken to her. When she found out the drugs I’d already taken, she had to change her perscription AND give me instructions on how long before it would be ok for me to put the new stuff into my system.

Other than that, heating pads are good. Tiger balm is good. Barring that, if you’ve got ben gay, I’ve been told it works the same way.

Do stretches – don’t let your pelvic muscles get all curled in on each other. Instead, stand up straight and put your hands above your head. Do this every 20-30 minutes for a minute or two. A friend of mine told me that it’s a good thing to do (she’s a massage therapist). If I do it repeatedly from the time the cramps start, it does seem to help. I’m guessing it’s because the muscles are sort of “pulled apart” from where they are.

Avoid anymore carbs or dairy for the next day or two, too. They increase cramping and such. (Of course, if you’re naything like me, you really want a nice big bowl of chocolate ice-cream as soon as the cramps stop making you feel nauseous!)

I'm a member of this community but I don't know how to POST an entry on Menstrualhut.

Anyhoo, Friday night, my period came early, okay, only THREE days early but I'm used it being on the 28th day like clockwork... So, this was a good thing that I got it at night because then I KNOW my cramps won't be that bad... If my period starts in the morning, all bets are OFF.
I had movers come in Saturday afternoon which was stressful and required physical work on my part to organize my shtuff the way I needed... at some point, I felt crampy, achy, tired, grumpy, and bloated. So I took TWO Kelp pills which is dried seaweed (iodine) and a diuretic. I felt great!
I got a second wind!
Girls, please try this out. You'll be peeing every hour and I advise to still take an anti-inflammatory (I prefer enteric coated aspirin).

GOOD LUCK with that!

Do you use an lj proggie or do you post via the internet? If you post via the internet you will see a little dropdown entitled "Journal to post in" underneith the post box in the expanded form of the post page (click on the elipsis next to the word Update).

I guess so. That is odd. I suggest you send an email to the moderator (scottobear@livejournal.com) and talk to her about it. You are a member so I don't understand what is going on :( Sorry hun!

Midol seems to work well for me. They were all out of Midol at the store so I bought Pamprin, I haven't tried it yet, I will next month. :)
