Hi I'm Sarah and I'm new to this community. I'll be 21 years old in August and I have been on Orthotrycycline for almost 4 years. I was originally put on it because of ovarian cysts and I had such painful periods. I started my period when I was 12 years old and I was in unbearable pain. I blacked out in highschool more times than I'd like to remember from pain. I'd break out into a sweat and just collapse from the pain...I was hospitalized once because a cyst on my ovary burst...the pill helped A LOT even though occasionally I still have problems with my period. My past two periods have been...err....strange? I'll spare those of you who don't wanna read the gross details...but I'd appreciate some insight or...SOMETHING!?

I'm currently on my period and it's awful. It's heavy, thick, slimey and clotty...I don't know if I'm passing cysts or what but it's horrible. I'm trying not to be graphic because well..let's face it - it's really gross! But my period is like...chunky? >_< Ugh....I apologize in advance for those of you who were brave enough to read this....

I went to the gyno 3 months ago and my papsmear was normal and everything was fine...and now my body started to go crazy...I read somewhere that you should wait for a bad period 3 times in a row because normally by the 3rd period whatever is up will have fixed itself. I don't know if that's true or not. I take my birth control religously and never ever miss a pill. I am sexually active but very careful and I doubt that has anything to do with my periods being crazy.

I'd appreciate any comments..Thanks so much -_-;

Hey, my name is Sarah and I'm 21 hehehe. I might add you to my buddy list for the hell of it...
Don't worry about the post, it's not all that disgusting. At least you described it in an appropriate way. I think it's normal for every woman to go through bad bouts where her period can be disgusting, or at least that is what I've been told.
Perhaps, someone in the community who's had cysts could help you more. I had endometriosis, but not cysts. I hear they can be quite painful and I wish you all the luck. Keep us posted, let me know what happens.

I don't have any advice or experience to offer, but welcome, and don't worry much about sounding disgusting. Descriptions of menses is par for the course around here.

have you ever had any side effects while being on the pill, things along the lines of nausea? i ask because i had ovarian cysts too, and i was put on the pill (for the first time two years ago, when i was 14; i was on it for 3 months, then went off of it for 3 because of the nausea, then started again because the pain came back, then eventually went off of it a year ago). i'm not on it anymore, which is something i worry about; my gyno said that i was probably past the point where i needed it, but i still worry about the pain coming back. both the pain from the ovulation and the nausea from taking the pill are crippling... any advice? have you come across this at all?

I totally understand

I too started my period when I was 12. Cysts run in my family, but I've been lucky enough not to have had them. But I suffer from extremely long periods that are heavy most of the time. And yes they are chunky. I think its just some girls' hormones create a thicker uterine wall than others and that's what is the chunks <- ew. My advice to you is if you use tampons it might be better for now to stick just to pads. The thicker stuff isn't absorbed by a tampon and I find it makes my period last longer if I use them during the beginning. Did that sentence make sense? Eh. I have been on birth control pills (and now the patch) for a steady four years now. If you're stressed from work or class sometimes it can make your period go haywire as well.

To summarize: chunky menses suck, but nothing to worry about. If you still aren't sure, then just go back to the gyno.

My guess would be that you are fine. Sometimes it's thicker, or chunkier, than others. I believe thats normal. If you're still nervous though ask a doctor...
