Can anyone answer this question??

First I will start with the story.

Judy has a boyfriend and has been having unprotected sex, with this boy for 4 months now. NO WITHDRAWAL. They have sex 3-4 times a week.

She has her period every month starting around the 24th and lasting until the 29th, or so.

So June rolls around, and her period comes on the 24th.
Her period ends on the 29th.
Estimating her fertile window was days July 5-11?

Anyhow, on July 19th she has an encounter with another boy.
However she does not have sex with this other boy.
She takes a shower with him, no penis-vagina contact what so ever.
Nothing sexual, no ejaculation.

She does not get her period the 24th of July.
She is worried, and takes a pregnancy test on August 3rd.
She is pregnant.

Doctors tell her she more than likely conceived 8-9-10 of July.

This girl is VERY paranoid and worries that somehow, no matter how ridiculous this sounds, that maybe the guy in the shower ejaculated with out her knowing and some sperm landed on her, and crawled inside her, getting her pregnant. Despite having unprotected sex with her boyfriend every other day.

I believe that this isn't very possible to have happened.

But to relieve her, I would like to ask this community:

Could Judy have conceived on the 19th of July?
Can sperm land, and crawl inside of you, in a shower?
Who is more likely to be the father?
Is Judy over reacting?

Conceived on the 19th is possible. There's really no way to just guess at ovulation time, that's why there is fertility tracking.

Not bloody likely.

The guy she has unprotected sex with every week.

Overreacting to being pregnant? No.

er... roughly 14 days before menstruation is generally a pretty good guess for ovulation even without tracking fertility.

Not all women ovulate exactly midcycle. Plus, if she always gets her period on the 24th, that's a 30-31 day cycle, not 28. It can make a difference.

I didn't say midcycle. I said roughly 14 days prior to the starting menstruation, regardless of cycle length (implied), is a good guess for ovulation. That would be why the doctors guessed the between the 8th and the 10th.

This site (http://www.allaboutmoms.com/ttc.htm) says 11 to 17 is typical... a pretty wide range with 14 in the middle. assuming she was due again about the 24, the 19th is 5 days earlier and would be very far outside of typical.

I didn't say likely, I said possible. And without fertility tracking, it's hard to know when ovulation is. If her period is late, it could be due to ovulation being late this month, with whatever factors could be involved.

If you want to put it that way, fine, but I think it's misleading. Over and over I've seen people around here say things like it's possibly to ovulate at any point during your cycle, and "possible" just isn't useful to anyone. Short of writing a dissertaion on the probability distrubution of when people ovulate, giving a range or saying roughly 14 days is a lot better than being so vague as to say any time is possible.

I know you added "Not bloody likely," but I wanted to qualify the statement "There's really no way to just guess at ovulation time," 1. because you can guess better than throwing darts at a calendar (ie. totally random), and 2. in case someone interprets that "Not bloody likely," as being based solely on the fact that she had sex regularly with the boyfriend and only showered with the other guy.

What about the possibility that she got pregnant in June? Women can still have some bleeding *even if they're pregnant*. It's a myth that having a period *definitely* means one is not pregnant. It's not as likely to be pregnant, nor as common, but it is possible.

I doubt the guy she showered with is the father. Highly doubt it. If she spent July having sex with her regular guy, I'd guess he'd be daddy.

Judy is smoking crack. This other guy is maybe 1% potentially the father.

No way in hell that shower boy is the father. Mind you, due dates are frequently inaccurate, so don't take the conception date ultra seriously. Besides, Mr. Sperm waits around until Miss Egg shows up, sometimes days.

Yup, the resilient girl-chromosome sperm can hang around a woman's insides for 2-3 days .. the male-chromosome sperm (which swims much slower) is usually gone in 24hrs.

I would have to say NO! What helps to get the sperm high enough to where it would be able to swim to the egg is the ejacualation INSIDE the vagina. Sperm have a very short life span so, it's the boyfriend's if anything.

It is far more likely that Judy got pregnant from her boyfriend who she's been having unprotected sex with. Judy probably just got lucky the other times by not being pregnant, but not as lucky this time.

As for shower boy, if there was no genital contact, then it is highly unlikely that she got pregnant from him. And to clarify, a shower and not a bath? Once sperm are exposed to the air, they die...so for shower boy to ejaculate, stay in the water, then find its way up Judy without being exposed to air, without genital contact, I would say would be the slimmest odds ever, and I can say that I am 99.999% certain that the father is in fact Judy's boyfriend, and not shower boy.
