New pill symptoms
Feb. 4th, 2004 01:51 amI'm looking for some thoughts from other women, although not compleatly to topic I hope no one minds too much.
I've changed my birth control pill a few times now, the last change was made in an attempt to see if it effected libido - despite not remembering having a libido to begin with, even before taking birth control.
I changed my birth control two months ago, the first month there was no notice, however I have noticed some symptoms;
- Depression, there are a lot of contributing factors, however depression for me is rare so I have to consider that it might have something to do with my birth control
- Sore breasts, again not common for me, I had breast pains last year which suddenly came on after 2 years of the same birth control, but were so bad they were preventing sleep so I changed pills. Breast pains are back, I'm about a week form my period.
- Discharge, my discharge is always unusual because I always have BV but there has been a correlation between breast pain and change in discharge.
- Spots on my face, far more than usual - which I wish I could get rid of.
- A weird spot on my outer labia, not a normal spot and it has been there since the 24th.
It could all be coincidence however given as it is a new pill I do have to take into consideration that the pill might not be right for me, the pill is ‘Femodette' it contains 75 micrograms of Progestogen gestodene and 20 micrograms of oestrogen ethinylestradiol - what this means I am sorry but I don't know, I thought someone might find that information useful.
My doctor did only give me a three months supply in case there were any negative effects however I don't like to bother my GP about these sorts of things because I feel that he doesn't take me seriously, also I don't like the idea of changing pills every few months (or the idea of pills full stop), but if they are really causing me problems then I suppose I do have to change, any opinions?

Date: 2004-02-04 05:29 am (UTC)i would say that if you are experiencing bad side effects to switch to a lower dose pill, but you are already on one of the lowest dose pills in the UK. there shouldn't be anything wrong with telling your doctor you want to switch pills- people have side effects with the pill fairly often and it frequently takes several tries to find the right pill for a person, so don't feel bad about it! and depression and breast pain are some of the commonest side effects. also, i don't believe that there's anything wrong with switching brands for your body--i personally have used 4 different brands in as many months because my source is the sample pills from my mom's office and i have to take what i can get. i never experienced any ill effects from this, though others may have had different experiences. if you don't like the idea of pills at all maybe you want to consider other options? i don't know what's available in the UK but i wouldn't recommend a shot like depo-provera for someone who's having side effects with the pill. anyway just don't feel bad about bothering your doctor- his job is to make you happy! hope that helps.
