The Keeper at Whole Foods
Aug. 7th, 2001 03:11 amShortly after I moved here, Indigo and I discovered something marvelous- Whole Foods in Austin sells The Keeper! I am going to buy one when my next cycle rolls around, in about two weeks.
To be honest, I'm a bit intimidated by the size. But the rubber is kind of soft. I guess it will depend on how much pressure it places on my vagina, and how well it compresses in response to the pressure of my vagina.
I am unable to wear a tampon larger than regular absorbency, and I prefer the slender size. The design & texture of the tampon matter too- I can't stand Playtex tampons because the design is very thick, plus the "unfolding" action places a lot of pressure on my vagina. OB tampons have a very harsh, rouch texture- they are painful to insert & wear.
Over the past couple of years, as the hel that is my girly-parts has worsened, even my standard Tampax have been giving me trouble. Sometimes the pressure of a slender, regular tampon is too much- my cramps get worse, and my entire cunt hurts. And sometimes removing a tampon is hell. It hurts. It's horrible. There are times when I bite my lip to keep from crying out. There are times that I do cry out in pain.
I'm looking forward to trying the Keeper. Although the diameter is still larger than what will usually comfortably fit in my vagina, maybe the smooth texture and the soft rubber will make it bearable. I know that I need something different, and I cannot bear the thought of going back to pads. Ugh. I hate pads. I hate how the adhesive, or sometimes dried blood, sticks to pubic hair. The way they always feel and look bulky. How they always leak, no matter what. I hate the fact that they require underpants, a scourge I usually avoid. I cannot stand that little diaper-esque creaky noise they make, the noise that sounds loud as hel to the ears of the wearer and made me all paranoid in junior high. And what a bitch they are to carry around.
So, the next time I have my dot, I'll probably post a Keeper review, as
sheeplass did. I really hope it works out. I can't go on with tampons, and I wil try just about anything before going back to pads.

Date: 2001-08-07 05:48 am (UTC)There is even a brand available online that makes a g-string like belt to wear with their pads so you don't have to wear underwear with them.
I'm still wanting to get a Keeper for swimming and hot tubbing, but for everyday wear, I LOVE my Glad Rags.
Try these links for more info:

Date: 2001-08-07 11:38 am (UTC)Seeing how many problems you've had with tampons this seems like a good solution for you. Read up on them and maybe buy one or two to try before investing in a whole set.
The other benifit being, of course, they are much beter for the environment. No waste being flushed away every month. The Keeper has that advantage as well.

Once you get it in, though, you should have a lot less problems than you do with tampons. That bell shape works, and there's a lot of give, and I totally forget I have the thing in.
With you being sensitive, you'll definitely want to trim that stem, probably close to completely off. So long as you don't have hang ups about touching yourself, you don't need the silly thing.
Removal is about as easy as wearing them. The silly things conveniently collapse for you with give that a tampon could only dream of.
Good luck, hon. I swear I couldn't live without mine.

Date: 2001-08-07 04:35 pm (UTC)this is totally off-topic. But this just seemed the only way to get in contact with you. I hope that everything is well and wonderful you. But I am writing to question if you have completely deleted or made your journal friends only. i know that i don't know you.. in any way beyond reading your journal. But I have missed hearing about you and your life for a long time. So I wanted to write and ask.. or comment.. or whatever i just did.

Date: 2001-08-07 05:15 pm (UTC)I have in fact made my LJ frinds-only. I did so because anoher LJ user has been stalking me online. The local police are looking into the matter, and until the matter is resolved I will be keeping my LJ under wraps.
I may make it public sometime in the future, I'm not sure right now. It really depends on the resolution.
Thanks for your concern and kind words. They mean very much to me.
thanks,
