Ok...SO my insurance company switched to me the generic for Orthotricyclen. It's called Tri-Sprintec. I'm having all the symptoms I get before I get my period. My face broke out, my breasts are SO sore, my anxiety is through the roof and I feel sick to my stomach. Well today I had some spotting, I guess you could say. Some brown yuckiness....And I've got this god awful pain. It feels like there's all this pressure on my pelvic bone and like my ovaries are rebelling against me. This is all happening A WEEK EARLY! I've been on BC pills for many many years due to ovarian cysts and my period has ALWAYS ALWAYS fallen on the exact same day...and now it's a week early?! It's not exactly a full blown period...it's just yuckiness when I use the bathroom... (Maybe the Sex Gods are showing me mercy seeing as my period was supposed to come the day before Valentines Day..?? NOOKIE FOR SARAH?!?!)

Could the generic not be the strength I need? The Pharmacist said it was the same...but why in the hell is my body all sorts of screwed up?! My poonanny is NOT happy! Anytime I have problems with my womanly stuff the first thing I think is, "PREGNANT! SOOOOOOO KNOCKED UP!!" Heehee I'm retarded!!

Any comments are, as always, appreciated!

Maybe there's some so-called "inactive ingredients" in Ortho that isn't there in the generic one .. that you body has gotten used to? I'd suggest staying on it for a month or so more and see if the same thing happens - coz it should settle right back in if its all the same thing (the generic and the Ortho). And if you bleed normally for a couple of days, you're not pregnant for all practical purposes. If you still feel paranoid, then do a pee test to confirm :)

I'm sorry you're going through all of this. I really don't have any advice, apart from taking a pregnancy test if you're worried. But, I would like to ask that you not use the word "retarded" in that context. It can be seen as offensive by many, and in a safe space like this one, we need not offend others.

My insurance company did the same thing to me. I just started my 3rd week of the pills Tri Sprintec. My breasts are so sore and I broke out as well, not to mention I'm bloating already. DAMN TRI SPRINTEC. I hate the "case" that it comes in.

There are differences from Brand and Generic, but they're very minute. You could be reacting to the 'inactive' or 'filler' ingredients.
I'm not sure if you're in Canada or the US, (I'm in Canada) but I work in a pharmacy and have an idea of how drug plans work. When a customer who has a 'generic only' drug plan, we offer the choice of billing the brand and just charging the customer the difference that the insurance doesn't pick up. Maybe ask your pharmacist if you can do that with yours.

or maybe you could explain your side effects to your doctor and see if he or she would be willing to write a letter to your insurance to try to persuade them to let you have Brand?

They say generic are supposed to be the same, but I went back to the brand name for a med I take because my doctor said the generic can be 30% to 60% less effective. The pharmacist disagreed with me, but there must be some differences, or else, why the cost difference?
