hey all...i am new here, and i have a quick question, cuz i'm in a hurry.

i know that you can stop your period by taking the pill and skipping the sugar pills. but i am supposed to see my guy tomorrow night and i just got my period today. my friend once told me that when she was in the middle of getting her period she started taking the pill and then it went away (i.e., if i took one pill tomorrow and maybe even today it would stop). is there any truth to this? is there anything i can do to stop it for tomorrow? any help would be greatly greatly greatly appreciated

i would advise you rather to deal with it at this point than just start taking the next pack. because you'll end up just screwing with your cycle if you do it that way, or at least that's my experience. you'll probably end up getting breakthrough bleeding, and if you're on a low dose pill trying to stop it probably won't work very well anyway, at least it may sort of taper off but not end, or go on and off, that kind of thing. so, i think for next time just plan ahead and for now just go with it.

if you use sea sponges instead of tampons you can have intercourse with no muss no fuss!

no, menstrual sponges (see comment below, or FAQ here (http://mwmw.com/dodo/ssfaq.html))

you can use the Instead cup (it's sort of like a diaphragm designed to catch menstrual flow) and then you can have sex.

Alternatively, take a shower first then put a towel down and you'll be all set.

When people first start taking the pill, you generally start taking it on the first day that you bleed -- and it takes ~4 days of taking hormone pills before your bleeding stops. IE, it definitely won't stop by tomorrow night even if you did start taking the pill now.

When taking the Pill, you can *skip* your period, but it is very hard to make it stop once it's started. Once you start bleeding your body really needs/wants/tries to finish emptying itself :)

Menstrual sea sponge:
http://www.pandorapads.com/sponge.htm

Some women buy sea sponges from art supply stores and boil them. You may find one in a health food store, but I order mine online. If you're using it during penetration, sew a string to it (I found that out the hard way), but I don't bother otherwise.

Instead cup:

They have somewhat of a learning curve for a lot of women (they m ay leak - especially during the first few months). I used 'em for a while, but I switched to the reusable DivaCup.

DivaCup (reusable menstrual cup):
http://www.divacup.com
It can be used during any kind of sex EXCEPT penetration. (The above can be used during any sex and penetration.

Also, if you're only concerned about oral and touching - if you use tampons, you can use a tampon and either tuck the string in or cut it off (carefully cut it off!). You can also use nothing if the person you're with is ok with a little b leeding. Putting a towel down can be helpful, t hough.

I've used all of teh above methods. I don't like tampons. I never have. The sea sponge is good, but needs to be removed and rinsed under running water every 3 hours. The Instead cup gets expensive because it's disposable. It also has a tendancy to shift, but I used it for years without too much of a problem. The DivaCup is awesome. Again, no penetration with it, but it's reusable so it's cheaper in the long run, and it has a low leakage rate (at least for me). In fact, mine hasn't leaked since i got it.

Good luck.

i don't find them to be, but they *do* take some getting used to. For me they are not any worse than tampons in terms of feeling them, its just the getting them in that's tricky.

Nope. I can't feel them.
