my Divacup is refusing to work today. I just want to scream. I've had the damn thing since August, you'd think it wouldn't give me problems. it usually works fine, but apparently only if I get my period on the weekend and have nothing to do. when I have work and class all day, it won't work.

*scream*

sorry, I had to get that out. oh, and I have cramps and it feels like I'm having hot flashes. ah, the joys of being a woman. I usually don't mind my period, but this time around it's being a real pain in the ass!

Yeah, I feel feel your pain (literally and figuratively)..lol. My Keeper always decides to fuck up on the first 2 days of my period when my flow is X-TRA heavy ( The first 2 days, you'd think I was bleeding to death. Always been that way). It either leaks like a mo-fo or it wont open all the way no matter how long I mess with it, or I cant get it angled in right..it's always something. I swear I change shape. I get those horrendous cramps too. Luckily I'v only got like a day or 2 left on my period, so it will be over soon. So will yours and everything will be back to normal...lol.

I've had issues where when I'm rushing around or trying not to be too obvious in a public restroom, I simply can't get my cup to work. I've had to take it out and reinsert it several times (which is a pain in the ass because I've got to go re-rinse the damned thing each time!)

It's REALLY annoying. My Keeper used to leak all the time. The only time my DivaCup's leaked is when I was in a rush and popped it in b/c I had to get somewhere. Of course, it leaked all over the freaking place while I was standing in line for the new Apple store to open. That was fun - NOT!

I've had very few problems with my cup, but once in awhile it just doesn't want to work for me. mostly I love it, though... and the thought of using a tampon makes me cringe now. I thought I was going to have to today, too. ick.

it's an alternative to traditional menstrual products (tampons and pads). they are good for your body (they collect blood without drying you out like a tampon, which sucks up blood and your natural moisture), your budget (you pay $20-30 and it lasts for many years), and the environment (no more waste!).

that is really interesting but really odd at the same time! how many times do you actually have to take that out and clean it a day?

It's going to vary from woman to woman as to how often she needs to empty it before it will overflow. You can wear it up to 12 hours at a time before taking it out (assuming that you don't overflow). Some women will only emptit every 12 hours (I envy those women), and some need to empty it more often.

The cup holds 1 oz of fluid. I've read some where that it says that the average woman bleeds 3-5 ounces per period. It's interesting to measure how much you actually bleed (I used to assume that I bled bucketfuls!)
