I've just joined and all. Well I've been having my period since i was about 10 or so and well yeah. It started off as normal and okay than about a year into it started to get heavier and heavier where now I have to change my tampon every two or so hours at school. I also wear a super obserbont pad also because I leak a lot. When most girls my age have light periods and so and there are those days they have a heavy. But I just don't understand why I am bleeding so much. It seems I gained a lot of weight since the beginning of my period. like 50 pounds or so. I am not sure but can somebody help me? Or give me a suggestion? Thanks. - Andrea.

I don't have any insight into why, but I also had a insanely heavy period for a few years... I think from 14 to 16... it just stopped being super-heavy on its own it seemed. Perhaps a gyno would have some insight?

Either way, have you considered a menstrual cup like the keeper or the divacup? when blood is absorbed, it looks like a lot more than when it's just in the cup, so a cup might allow you a few hours more freedom since you wouldn't have to empty it so often. Money back gurantee if you don't like it, so give some serious thought to trying it, perhaps with a pad for backup to give you more confidence.

You've gained weight since you first got your period?(at age 10?)
That sounds about right. Gotta love puberty.

Andrea,

If I can help in any way I will. I am a nurse and worked for a gyn before I got married.

I know all about starting young as I was only 9. Not fun. How many years have passed since you started your period?

Do you find you are flooding?

i always feel like that, too. that mine are ungodly heavy and whatnot.

i'm 16. how old are you? maybe it's just the age thingy? i don't know.

just letting you know you're not alone.

well, good luck.

i wouldn't be too worried about it though, because i think it's just a kind of "the luck of the draw" kind of a thing. =/

Don't feel bad...or, at least, don't feel that you're the only one bleeding that much. I had a very heavy period until I went on the Pill in college, and on top of that I didn't start using tampons until I was 21 -- can you imagine heavy flow plus only pads plus high school? Oh, the misery :)

I was 5'8" and 140 lbs -- but my best friend was 5'3" and 125, and she had periods that were just as bad, if not worse.

If you've already started seeing a GYN, she can tell you if you have anything physical to worry about...but the heaviness might just be your style, lucky you. But you're not the only one.
