[identity profile] metatherian.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] menstrualhut
Hi, this is my first post here. I've also just posted this to [livejournal.com profile] anti_tampon.

Found these instructions for making a mentrual cup from aquarium sealant (silicon) on the museum of menstruation site:

_______________________________________________________________
This is how to make a menstrual cup out of aquarium sealant for less than 5US$:
Create paper-mold
Cover in dish-soap
Fill space in paper-mold with aquaria sealant
Let stand one day
Boil off the paper
Hand-wash between uses
Boil between menses
It is important to only use aquarium sealant. Aquaria silicone is the same as medical-grade silicone - aquarium sealant must be as pure as medical-grade silicone or else it might hurt the fish. Other kinds of silicone might have dangerous impurities or additives.

I've never seen anything else about DIY menstrual cups.
I have some aquarium grade silicon sealant and am keen to try it for this purpose!
I was wondering whether anyone has any ideas or experience with what to use for making a mold in: egg cup? I've never seen a Keeper so I'm not too sure what size they are. Also any general input would be appreciated.

I posted a picture of a tampon side by side to the diva cup, maybe that would help.

that is so interesting! hee hee, maybe I'll give it a whirl when my keeper gives out before replacing it with a divacup, using the keeper to cast the paper mold.

if you have it, can you post the link to the mum page about doing this? I can't seem to find it. thanks.

success

If you have any success in creating one for less than $5 and it holds up I would be very interested. I am sure many of the forum readers will be as well. Keep us posted!
