anyone ever take prescription drugs (ie anti-depressants) to help curb PMS symptoms? what did you take? results? i've been fighting with intense mood swings & exhaustion for years and the vitamin, exercise route is not helping........

I used to take Effexor - veeeeeery low dose. It worked, even curbed the excessive eating, but I am not one who cares for taking pills to alter my mood, so I quit. It works *really really well* though, and you don't have to take it all the time to build up a blood level of it or whatever - only when you need it. I get *really* violent moodswings too, and just the littlest dose was fine, prescribed by my gynecologist too. She had samples - you might see if yours does. Then you can try before you buy and all :> It did make my belly icky if I didn't eat well first though.

I took Prozac in small doses and it helped my overall mood- and PMS. Messed with my sleep though, and gave me really freaky dreams.

the "new" drug out called Seraphim, advertised to treat PMDD (pre-menstrual distress disorder?), which is basically aggravated PMS, consists completely and totally of the same drug as PROZAC. it's just different doses, under a different brandname. same effective ingredient.

who knows? they wouldn't have done it if there wasn't substantial research backing their claim.
you might want to talk to y our doctor and try it out.
