The pull-out method of birth control, ha I've been there. Your pal should use condoms in addition to the pill to be safe. Sometimes the pill doesn't work if you don't take it exactly when you are supposed to. She could have miscarried. You ovulate about that time too, so it could have to do with that.

I would tell your friend to go see her Gynecologist to see what's up ASAP.

If she takes her pill correctly (on time, not missing pills, etc.) she doesn't need to use the pull-out "method"*. If she is concerned with STDs, she should be using barrier protection, but if she is only concerned with pregnancy, the pill is effective by itself. It was designed this way. It does not need to be backed up (except in the very beginning) with condoms, or anything else, unless that is that person's personal preference.

*Pulling out is not any more a method of birth control than luck.

Coitus Interruptus is not a safe method of preventing pregnancy.

Just saying. *smiles*

While there is that minimal chance the pill "won't work", you should be fine.

I have no idea. Even with modern technology, a girl's uterus can be rather spastic at times. Sometimes, I don't know how they put up with all those pregnancy scares.

Could be stress. Could be an infection, who knows. Isn't there some unwritten rule that if something nasty is going on with the uterus for over a week, she should get it checked out?

Sometimes, all you can do for girls is be supportive. If it lasts for a few more days, encourage her to up her iron intake.

Sometimes having horrible cramps and an unusually heavy flow signifies a miscarriage. Yes, she is on the pill, but even the pill isn't 100% effective. And women CAN miscarry very early, and that's what it sounds like she did.

But I'd get her to go to the doc. If she refuses, ask her why. If you can, get her to go to a planned parenthood or free health clinic or something if she's worried about the insurance end of things, or not wanting her parents to find out.
