well I just joined this here community, and i have question..I tend to bleed every two weeks. now, I always thought this was impossible, seeing as the menstrual cycle is 28 days..but, Ive been keeping a very close eye on my period, and it has in fact been coming every 14 days. is my uterus working double time? am i horribly sick without even knowing it?

actually, if there's nothing wrong with the periods themselves, and they're relatively short (not very heavy flow or anything), it's very possible that you simply have a fast cycle. it happens. *shrug* another possible explanation, if i were to just pull one out of the air, would be hyperthyroidism- that can speed up your metabolism and your cycle.

the only way to see if it's truly a problem or not is to have it checked out by your doctor. in the meantime, i wouldn't call it an emergency.

I've got the same "problem", hon.

I bleed every two weeks and two days, pretty much on the dot. My doctor checked me out, told me that there's really nothing wrong with having it so often as long as I'm healthy, and as long as it's fairly "regular" as far as periods go. Mine is fairly heavy, and I bleed for seven days, and I have severe cramping to go with it--and maybe once every 28 days I would have no problems handling it, but as it is, I'm going on birth control pills to see if that helps out any.

Your period every two weeks.

Are these periods accompanied with any pain? Cramping? Discharge in between periods?? If not, then it's probably not an immediate medical emergency. HOWEVER, you shoudl contact your ob/gyn and schedule a check-up (even if it hasn't been a year) to discuss your concerns. Some of the most commen causes for your problem, that I can think of off the top of my head, might include; a thyroid embalance, a hormonal imbalance (sometimes if you have more than one sudden dip in your progesterone level / month, you can have more than one episode of bleeding), or ovulatory bleeding. Ovulatory bleeding is pretty rare... but, if your bleeding at mid-cycle is slight and only lasts a day or two, it could be a possiblity. This results from a change in two hormones at the time of ovulation. Like I said, without taking a thourough history, it's hard to diagnose your problem. One thing you may want to watch out for ...whatever the cause of your bleeding,....is anemia. Be sure to have your hematocrit/hemoglobin checked at your next physical. Good luck.

Hmmm... let me preface by saying that I strongly advise to you at least call your doctor and get his/her opinion. Chances are, it is nothing...but you don't want to risk your future fertility with something that could've been treated very easily in the beginning.

You mentioned that your discharge is seasonal (becoming more frequent in the summer time)... do you swim or spend alot of time in a bathing suit? Sometimes, trapping the moisture from a wet suit against the heat of your body can cause an over growth of bacteria, which results in a type of fungal or yeast infection. This is very annoying and can reoccur frequently. You might want to try ONLY cotton underwear (as it breathes better) for a few weeks. Make sure it is 100% cotton though, or you won't see much diffference at all. Also, change out of your swimsuit IMMEDIATELY after you are finished swimming. And, be sure to pat dry your vagina really well after showering/bathing.

As for the bleeding...yeah, you definately should have yourself checked out. I really don't think it's anything serious, but you should really have some labs drawn to make sure. I would suggest a CBC, Chem 7, TsH (thyroid panel), and various hormone levels.

TAKE YOUR IRON PILLS!!! Your physician prescribed them because you must have had a low iron level (I'm guessing your H & H was low---below 12). It's SO important that you take them, not taking them can really effect your health. And, it's a relatively inexpensive way to prevent future problems. Your red blood cells depend on iron to help carry and distribute oxygen throughout your blood stream. THIS IS IMPORTANT! :) Also, with your bi-monthly bleeding, I would worry about your Hematocrit anyway... take your iron!

It depends on how long this has been going on. It's common to have an extra period during a stressful situation, but constantly menstruating every two weeks can be a sign of problems.

You should definitely be taking an iron supplement, and see your doctor.

it's possible, too, that if the doc puts you on the pill or something and it "straightens out" your cycle to once every 28days or so, your anemia will improve; one of the reasons (or so i'm told) that anemia occurs among young women is heavy menstruating. and if your cycle is frequent and becoming heavier, it could be worsening your anemia, so yeah...getting it checked out is good.

good luck if you do get a pelvic exam; the first time i had one, i was so scared and tense that i almost screamed when she tried to insert the speculum. thankfully, i had a great doc who stopped immediately and helped calm me down. make sure you talk to the doc beforehand, tell her (or him) that you're new, and that you're going to be tense. the more you are relaxed, the easier it will be; and the more you are comfortable with your doc, the more relaxed you will be. (also: ask her/him to warm the speculum--that duck bill you were talking about :)--in her/his gloved hands before inserting it. s/he should do that anyhow, but it makes things more comfortable.)

well after all this time I hope you saw the gynae and got sorted, somehow. Anyway bleeding every 14 days is in a fact mid-cycle bleed and then a menstruation. Usually a birth control pill will sort it , if you can bear the side-effects.
