I need some help here! I am just a teenager and have been having periods for 4 years. About 2 years ago I started to constantly have periods. They last for weeks and weeks at a time with only a couple days inbetween. They don't hurt too much, but they aren't too pleasn't either. I havn't told anybody about this because I am too scared. I would be willing to get some help if this is dangerous. Anybody got some help for me? Please?

I don't think you're in a dangerous situation and you have nothing to be embarrassed about.

If I were you, I'd talk to my doctor and maybe even see a gynecologist. Most likely they'll but you on birth control to help regulate your cycle, make the flow lighter, and make your period shorter.

Other than that, I don't know what. Good luck.

if you say you want to be a gynecologist, which it says in your profile, you better know what one is.

lol, I just noticed that in her profile. You're right, how can you want to be one when you don't know what one is?

A doctor that specializes in the care of the reproductive organs of a woman. I really suggest that you talk to your mother about what is going on. You are only 15 and while irregular periods are normal when you just start out, constantly bleeding isn't good for you either. Talk to your mother, don't be scared. The previous poster is probably right. They might put you on birth control pills to regulate your period. They tried that with me when I was a little younger than you are.

Haha. Aw, you're welcome.

A gynecologist is, simply put, a vagina doctor.
You go to them every so often, once you start having sex, become of age, or have mestrual problems, and they help you out.

Trust me. I know what it's like to have it for weeks. I used to get horrid cramps with mine too, and I never knew when I was going to get it. I got it twice a month a few times, and then there was a time I didn't get it for 4 months. I got put on birth control, and I've never been better.

Ohhhh haha.

Well, they're going to ask you questions about your period and such. They'll also ask you if you're sexually active(i.e intercourse, oral) but that will usually be done confidentially, if your mother is there.

Then they might exam you to see if everything is normal and if you're sexually avtive then the doctor will most likely do a pelvic exam, which is he/she feeling the inside (it feels like they're puching up againt your lower stomch from the inside) to make sure everything is ok and normal.

They also MIGHT do blood work to make sure everything is ok with your hormones and whatnot. Then you'd probably discuss birth control.

how come mom hasnt noticed that you are on your period for so long? Doesnt she buy your products or look in the trash can on occasion??
You should definately talk to mom about this, maybe she had the same thing happen to her when she was younger.

there is no reason to be embarassed, your mom has had periods long before you were even thought of! you never know, this could be the bonding factor that brings you two together. and that isnt necessarily a bad thing. please see the comment i left in your lj.

Something you might want to think about is getting tested for iron-deficiency anaemia, if you're losing that much blood. Not that that would cause the blood loss, but the blood loss might cause anaemia, which will make you feel pretty grotty, and it's nothing iron pills won't cure. But yeah. You should probably see a doctor, just to make sure there isn't any underlying problem, and that that amount of blood loss isn't going to cause you any problems. Good luck, and I hope it clears up soon.

just wanted to say i had the same problem for 9 months and hid it from my mom and all, and then i finally went to the gynecologist and she put me on birth control pills and that fixed it immediately, and i felt like such an idiot for not bringing it up sooner. that's why i am now in med school studying to be a gynecologist myself! no girls should have to suffer through that. good luck!

the same thing happened to my friend. she finally went to the gyno and they did a quick and easy check up and put her on a light dose of birth control. and she went off it a year later, and now her periods are fine.
