Aug. 19th, 2001 11:27 amCan someone tell me if there is a relation between period pains/cramps and weight? Because I've discovered that since I lost weight my periods have gone more painful. My BMI is something 17,5 or so and I tend to have a poor blood circulation (ice cold hands and feet all the time). So for the first days of my period I am on the verge of fainting, I have cramps, pain in the back, headache and nausea. Plus, I have heavy flow. I'm pretty sure that I'm losing too much blood!
UGH

You're probably anemic-- it's very common for menstruating women. What you should do is buy yourself a big bottle of iron pills and take 2 a day for a while. It is very difficult for your body to absorb iron so until you're feeling better you should take a bunch of it. Eating more greens and the like will not help, contrary to popular myth-- your body is unable to extract the iron in things like spinach. Meat will help, if you are into that. Liver is very good for anemia.
I was anemic last time I visited the dr and she told me to take pills 3x a day. That's generally overkill, but I was quite anemic and iron doesn't build up in your body so it's not dangerous to take a bunch of it.
cautions:
--take it with food if you can
--it can make you constipated. Get yourself some Milk of Magnesia to go with it.
good luck!
