its really time to get a new doctor. the mysogynistic asshole puts me on actos, an oral diabetes medicine, along with my insulin. He gave me samples for a few months, with no patient information sheets. I go for a check up friday and he gives me an actual script for it, plus antidepressants to help me quit smoking and quit crying uncontrollably. Actos and Wellbutrin both interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills AND they both say "do not take if pregnant or can become pregnant because of the risk of birth defects" So I can't take the pill but i shouldnt (and don't want to) get pregnant. I ask him about this and he says to go on the depo shot, which is bullshit because I was already on that for 2 years and he knows it made me gain 50lbs and it completely erased my sex drive. So then he says "just use condoms" Which Butch and I do, but goddammit i shouldnt have to.
He also refuses to give me an IUD and told me that I am to young to get my tubes tied.
It's a fucking shame that I could face: 1. another abortion, 2. a deformed/retarded kid 3. death/serious complications due to my health problems if i did get pregnant. Even when Butch and I are completely diligant with condom use, they are not 100% effective. I want my tubes tied due to medical and personal reasons and I don't understand why this seems so impossible. He says he cant due the iud or tubal because he would et sued by wishy washy woman who change there minds. Fuck that. if i decide i want children later on, then i will adopt/be a good aunt/volunteer with kids/adopt more animals/get over it.

What a fucking jackass! Sorry for cursing, and for what your going through. You should get a new doctor, might as well get a lawyer too because this "doctor" should not be a doctor at all.

RUN RUN RUN to planned parenthood(women's center, clinic, anywhere)!!!!!!!!
I advise my girl friends to change docs if they sense ANY discomfort....you have been ill advised, spoken rudely to, and your needs and concerns have NOT been addressed! This person needs to see patients walking(running) to other physicians in order to recognize the error of his ways. and if he doesn't, least you'll have the adequate care you deserve ;)
good luck girl

Definately change doctors, but remember that part of the reason he won't do a tubal is because of your age. Most doc's like to wait until you are at least 25 or so. True, part of it is to protect them from getting sued, but your doc could have said it better instead of saying "wishy washy". The fact is, that "law" wouldn't be there had there not been quite a few women who DID sue their doctor for doing it even though they asked them to.

that is such crap. fortunately (?) it has been known to go both ways - a male friend of mine went to get a vasectomy in his late 20s to early 30s and the (male) doctor said "i need a permission slip from your wife ... you don't have one? ok, from your girlfriend ... you don't have that either? well then why do you want a vasectomy?"
also, what is the reason for refusing an IUD? i have known a couple of people who have been very happy with them.

Many doctors are hesitant to give IUDs to women who have not had children. IUD's are much easier to insert through a cervix that has been baby-stretched in the past.

well your doc sounds like the typical kind of doc you find when on hmo's . but have you heard of MIRENA (http://www.mirena-us.com), it doesn't last as long as the IUD does, but its less invasive and while it's being marketed for women who have already had children, it can also be used in women who have not yet had children. it is good for about 5 years and depending on where you are located you are more willing to find a facility that is willing to prefore the procedure for you. When i went to Planned Parenthood the doctors there were the ones to tell me about mirena. good luck

i'm justcruising communities but...yer doctor sucks. for me personally, the fact that he's a guy puts him out of the running right away, but if he's not addressing yer needs...
you should definetly go to planned parenthood. they treat you right.
