Jul. 18th, 2004 02:12 amhey all, my names risa, im currrently 17 years old, i just felt like i should share my story with everyone since iw as posting some comments, and i wasn't part of the community (although i did post my comments in my other journal
fornicate_me)
so it all started off when i was in puerto rico, in november, i had gotten my periods 4 times, which they had run into eachother exactly 17 days apart, months before, i had been any where from 20-35 days apart with my periods, i had gotten it when i was 12 years old, and at this point in time, i was 16...after i got home from puerto rico, i went to my doctor, she set up an ultra suond for me and i had gotten it done...when we recieved the news from the scan, they told me that i have a tumor on my right ovary that was 13cmX9cmX4cm in exact...thats more or less the size of a cantaloupe to put it...i went to my OBGYN, and we set up laproscopic surgeyr, he said that it was going to be trickey due to the size, i wound up having my surgery in february but it was half laproscopic half cut open, so in my pelvic region, i have 2 small dots, then an incision about an inch long...
i had my post-op visit weeks later, and found out that my tumor was considered borderline, which meant that it wasn't cancerous, but it wasn't begning-confusing right? well they sent my labs out to the scully labratory in boston, massachusetts (at harvard university) this was because my OBGYN (who may i say is the best laproscopic surgeon for gynocology in NYC) didn't know many cases like mine, especially for a 16 year old...then about 5 weeks later, i remeber on march 25th, we had another doctors appointment set up...
this time we went to the oncologist, it turned out that the tumor was found to be cancerous, that meant i had ovarian cancer, so i had emergancy surgery to remove my right ovary allong with the fallopian tube...i feel that it is very important that if you have bad cramps, and dont feel well to go to your doctor or to your gyno to get checked up upon, because now that i am cancer free and mostly healthy, that if in fact, that i hadn't gone to the doctor and spoke up, i could be really sick, even though the tumor had stage 2 cancer i didn't have to get chemo, which i thank god pretty much every day...
im just sayin-watch out, because you never know whats goin on in your body, i hope you all learn something, maybe you will maybe you wont, if you ahve anyquestions just comment...=)
