My name is Amber and I am 19 years old.. I've been a member of this community for a long time and it's been very helpful. I've actually never introduced myself or said anything. (Really shy) But I do have a question now.

I will be going to see my OB/GYN next month and I'd like to talk to her about Seasonale. Is anyone on it? What's it like? Does it cost more then other forms of birth control?

Thank you!

Amber

Seasonale is a fairly new birth control without a generic version, so it can cost more than others. It really varies from insurance plan to insurance plan. Iknow that my insurance plan doesn't cover it (well, sort of, the market price around here is $44 and my insurance says that I have to pay $40!).

Just so you know, you can skip periods with any monophasic birth control. Seasonale is actually just the re-packaging of a different birth control pill (I can never remember which one). Again, if you're using insurance, generics are still usually cheaper than brand names, but if you get a generic, monophasic, you can use it to skip periods. Iknow that [livejournal.com profile] birthcontrol has a lot of information on how to do this. However, you may or may not be covered for every pack by your insurance plan. You may have to pay for one out of every 4 or 5 packs without insurance because some plans will only allow you to get a new pack once every 25 days (so you don't skip and they don't have to pay more money).

If you're using insurance, call your insurance company and ask them what is covered. If you're not using insurance, and you decide to go for monophasic pills instead of Seasonale, ask your doctor for a generic and ask if she/he has any samples of whatever they perscribe you!

Good luck.

Keep in mind, however, that if you're sexually active and a monthly period keeps your mind at ease (as far as pregnancy goes) this may not be the right choice for you.

Other than that, the only complaints I've heard are in the realm of breakthrough bleeding, but I don't really know anyone that's been on it long enough to see that stop for good.

im on seasonale. im in my third pack/2nd month and so far i LOVE it. yes, it may cost a bit more than other birth control pills because its new. the only thing is that you might get more breakthrough bleeding than on a regular BC pill, but its nothing much to worry about (it goes away after a couple cycles)

I am on Seasonale since January and aside from getting my period every 3 months, I haven't seen any other benefits. I gained weight, have weird cramps sometimes, and lots of breakthrough bleeding and spotting and I am REALLY good about taking at the exact same time every day. I am contemplating switching off of them.
It costs more - sort of. Since it's three packs in one and I only have to buy it every three months, it costs me around $120 all at once, when one pack used to cost around $36 each month.
