I've been a member here for quite some time, but it's definitely been a while since I've posted.

Anyhoo, I have a question of sorts. I just started birth control last Sunday (Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo), and I think it made me sick last night. I take it at 7 PM, btw. I went to bed pretty hungry, which is unusual for me, because I'm "always shovelling food down my throat" (quote from my boyfriend). But, nevertheless, I did go to bed hungry. Sometimes when I'm REALLY hungry, I get nauseous, but last night, I was okay. Untiiiiiiil 2:30 AM when I woke up feeling feverish and on the verge of throwing up. I laid in bed for about a half hour, trying to let the feeling pass. Needless to say, it didn't, and I found myself in the bathroom throwing up. Not much at all though, considering the only thing I had consumed in recent hours was water. And it was tasteless and colorless, so I'm assuming it wasn't connected with anything else. But what I'm wondering is, could this random spurt of sickness be connected to just starting birth control?

This is the only time it's happened, because I never go to bed feeling hungry. And the bc hasn't affected me otherwise. My mom said when she first started birth control, and she went hungry for too long, it kind of made her feel sick. So yeah, I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced it, or if it's something to worry about. Thanks for listening!

yeah, that definately could be it. When I was on the pill, I always tried to eat at least something with it, even if it wasn't a meal, cause it made me nauseous. Also, if you throw up after taking the pill, you may want to consider using back up for the rest of the month. (in case you threw up too much of the hormones). But, yeah, its common to feel a little puky when first starting the pill.

i would suggest that if you find yourself still feeling awful after a while, try taking your pill in the morning instead of at night. i got totally ill when i was taking it at night, but then my NP told me it might be better if i switched to the morning, and it totally worked.
