hey! I just joined this community.. :) my name's Amanda and I'm 16. I have a couple of questions to ask you guys..

I have a doctors appointment August 6th and I would really like to ask my doctor to put me on the pill because I am sexually active with my boyfriend whom I've dated on and off for 3 years. I always use a condom, but afterwards I'm always afarid that I could possibly be pregnant, and if I was on the pill I would feel much more, secure I guess. plus I'd still use a condom for extra protection :) but my question is, what can I ask my doctor to say to my mom? my mom knows I've had sex, but not with my current boyfriend [I've slept with 1 guy previous to him] and I don't want her to know because she'd never let me see my boyfriend anymore. so could I ask her to say 'I think its a good idea for your daugther to go on the pill for her period?' or anything like that? I've kinda brought it up to my mom before and she was totally against it :\ I have a new doctor now and I'm hoping she can help..

my other question is, I had sex about 2 weeks ago with a condom and I just started my period yesturday, but its extremely light which is rare for me.. is there a possiblity I could still be pregnant? I knew a lady who had her period throughout her entire pregnancy.. :\ I'm kinda scared

comments are greatly appreciated.. <3

hello amanda. :-)

yes, that is rare, but it does happen occasionally. if you are worried or suspect it, get a test and find out. at least that way you don't have to be anxious. anxiety can do all sorts of funky things to periods and even make it stop completely!!
i got on my bc pills before i had sex, because i had killer cramps and i couldn't take the pain anymore. some people go on them to clear up acne (didn't work for me). there are many reasons besides the actual birth control.

i'm on triphasil 28 - it seems to work best for me. i was on ortho tricyclen - and it made me a pyscho bitch. soo..i went off of that (i had changed to clear o=up my face, but it didn't work anyway!!) and back onto my triphasil! too much estrogen in the ortho stuff - my body didn't like it!!

sure - oh they are so much better when on the pill too - i used to bleed soo heavy for like 8 days. i would have to use superplus tampon and pad and change every hour or two - it was horrendous.

b.c. pills will totally help that - regulate the bleeing and pain and throwing up/diarrhea if you have that too. (i did) good luck to you!

Hi Amanda!

Not too long ago I was trying to figure out how to break the 'I want to go on birth control' talk to my mother. I told her that I wanted my periods to be regular (for stress reasons) and that I wanted the birth control as a precaution. I said that I was worried about getting carried away sometime in the future and just though at my age (im 19- 18 at the time) a girl should be on birth control- just in case.

I hope this helps. :)

I went on it without telling her and the she found out. It was not pretty but I told her the doctor suggested it and it somehow went better. Now she is glad I am on it.

I agree. I say, do it this way:

Simply tell your doctor about your wicked cramps and that pain relieving drugs don't help. When your doc suggests the pill (which she most likely will) ask her to explain it to your Mother. Try not to let the explaination come from you. If it comes from your doctor, it'll sound better than from you, especially since you've already broached the subject with your mom.

Don't worry, your doctor will help you out. You'll probably get the "THIS DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE PERMISSION TO HAVE SEX!!!!!!" speech afterwards, but keep in mind that only you can protect yourself, and since you're having sex anyways, a little lie is better than a BIG pregnancy!

Good luck.

by the way, if your doctor doesn't recommend it, i'd like to put a good word in for the ring (NuvaRing) instead of the pill. ask your doctor about it. i think it's WAY better for teenagers cause i was on the pill at your age and constantly screwing it up and forgetting to take it and stuff. when you're going and sleeping at other places it's really hard to remember pills all the time, at least for a forgetful person like me. :-) the ring has fewer side effects and i just love it. anyway, think about it! p.s. i think it's great you're having the courage to get this over with between you and your mom, if it were me i would have found some way to try to keep it a secret, i paid for pills on my allowance for like 2 years and she didn't know about it. so go you! good luck.
