i ordered a divacup, and i just got my period today, so i tried it out. putting it in wasnt so hard...but the little stem thingy kind of was rubbing at certain spots and was hurting. so after like an hour or so, i thought that i would take it out and trim the stem because i read that it will help if you do that. but when i was taking it out...IT HURT SO BAD!!!! the only part that hurt was when i was pulling it out right at the very entrance of my vagina. it hurt so bad that im afraid to put it back in. i mean putting it in didnt hurt cuz its folded in half...but taking it out, its fully opened. im pretty small down there...but jesus christ..it really hurt. ok, lol, now to my actual question...are there any tricks or anything like that that will make it hurt less when i take the divacup out? (sorry for the rambling in my little story there!!)

Oh sweetie! There should be information in the pamphlet that came with it telling you about the seal and how to remove the cup so that the seal doesn't cause all that pain When you remove it, you've got to break the seal, and you shouldn't just yank it out. Here's how I do it (I don't remember what the pamphlet said):

1. Reach inside and squeeze the "bulb" end of the cup a bit. Angle the bulb end out of your body a little bit (do not remove the rim this way – pulling it straight out will hurt as you already know).

2. Tilt the cup sideways. For me, that means tilting the bulb towards my anus. I have a tilted uterus and pelvis and a lot of crooked "stuff" going on down there, so the angle for you may or may not be different.

3. Reach up further and grasp the rim of the cup (it's still inside your body). Squeeze the rim so that instead of being an O it's squeezed together kinda like an oval.

4. To remove the cup, tilt the bulb the rest of the way out so that the cup is removed on the "skinny" end of the oval.

I'm not sure if these instructions make sense. I do know that it will probably be messy the first few times you try to remove it that way. I can do it quickly and easily now, and in fact, the blood does not spill all over my fingers. However, when I was first trying to do this, it would make a mess and it did take a little while for me to figure out how to get it out.

You may also want to look through some of the past entries here (and possibly the memories) for information on removal. The DivaCup website http://www.divacup.com may or may not have more information.

PS: Just thinking about it has my coochie hurting. I feel so bad for you! You may want to wait a few days and give your body a rest before trying the cup again so that you don't hurt yourself!

I had the same problem the first time! I don't think the divacup directions were that clear. I ended up just squeezing the sides together and yanking. OUCH!!! I swore i'd never put it in again because it hurt so bad. I actually put it in last night for the second time, and didn't have a problem taking it out. I pressed on one side of the cup and then folded that side it a little bit. I even heard the suction release! then i eased it out slowly and got one end out and then the other end. Hope this helps!
