symptoms: white stuff in/around the vagina, itchiness, sensitivity, maybe irritated by lube (thats how I realized something was wrong the first time I got a YI), smelling like yeast/bread/beer.
and the first time I got YI, I *think* it may have been caused by my boy ejaculating inside me, or it might be from the antibiotics I was taking for my UTI the week before, but I've heard it's possible in that way.
hey, you beat me to it while i was typing. just wanted to let you know that they are often caused by antibiotics for UTIs that also eliminate 'good bacteria' from your vagina and let bad bacteria in. that is also how i got mine. having someone ejaculate inside you should HOPEFULLY not have bacteria in it, at least unless they have an STD or something! :-)
yes, but I think I read somewhere yeast infection is also caused by the change in pH in the vagina, and ejaculate is more basic, and the vagina is more acidic (i think, right? i hope I didn't get them mixed up), so that may have caused it
well i'm a medical student, but you can still believe what i say or not. :-) we'd be getting a hell of a lot of yeast infections if ejaculate caused them, don't you think?
I didn't say it was a common thing, but it's possible. Like sometimes it's caused by "tight pants," according to many YI sites, but if its alwasy caused by tight pants, then that'll be a lot of YI bc lots of girls wear tight pants.
I dont know about tight pants, but less breathable fabric underware (like silk, for example) can make the problem more likely to occur. Thongs elevate the chances even more.
I also have a friend that's on a really complex medication regimento control her thyroid and the medicine (or maybe when they put her on a different routine that what she's used to...I forget which) gives her YI's all the time.
ok, i don't know if anyone's reading this anymore, but just to clarify... what you're saying about the tight pants and breathable underwear is true, but different. tight pants and less breathable underwear are things that increase the likelihood of growing bacteria. pH change may also change bacterial growth, but i just really doubt that a little ejaculate is going to change the whole vagina's pH that much just in terms of volume/acid-base titration concept kind of thing. a lot of girls do wear tight pants but also certain people are more susceptible to yeast infections due to various factors so that's why most people can get away with wearing synthetic underwear and tight pants all they like without getting infections.
hi- symptoms of a yeast infection are generally feeling very itchy and also having different discharge, they say it's more than usual and doesn't smell right, as i recall. don't scratch the itch though! i found out the hard way that makes it way worse. it can be caused by sex if you play what my best friend calls 'the switching hole game'.... i.e., you should never have anal sex and then vaginal sex without washing up in between or switching condoms. basically it's just some bad bacteria getting into your vagina. you should get to your gyno and they can confirm the yeast infection, then they give you a 1-pill treatment called diflucan and you can use over the counter stuff like monistat etc. to relieve the symptoms. in my experience diflucan doesn't work that great, but i hope you have better luck! doctors like you to check with them if you've never had a yeast infection before treating it with anything, also same goes for UTIs, but after you've had a few, they take your word for it usually and just call you a prescription. :-) hope that helps. and hope you feel better soon!
IMO, one of the biggest things to remember when you are on a course of antibiotics for a UTI or anything else is to eat yogurt (or a non-dairy yogurt) to help your body maintain the good bacteria. Immune boosters like zinc and vitamin C are also good to make sure your system has plenty of, just in general.
