I'm not getting my help from anyone in this matter, so I'll ask here.

I've had my period for three years now, and it's been HELL each time. I'm 14 and ever since I was 11 I have been curled into a little ball for three days (the first and last day are okay) crying because of the pain. Painkillers won't work and I'm getting desperate as it often hinders me from doing anything and often gives me headaches too. The last year it has been getting increasingly worse. Since none of my friends are really this troubled by mestrual pain and there's really no person here where I can go to ask for help (who'll take me seriously) I'm asking you.

Do you know any way to lessen the pain? Other than ripping out my ovaries that obviously hate me.

I used to have symptoms like that, and I found that starting on the pill really helped to lessen them.

I know that you're young, and that there's a chance someone will freak out, you may want to talk with your doctor and see if the pill would be beneficial to you.

/just my $.02 :)

If the normal stuff (ipuprofin, heating pad, hot bath) isn't helping at all, I'd suggest going to see your doctor. The doc will be able to help you out and figure out if something is wrong.

I do remember that my period was absolutely terrible during my teenage years. I used to vomit because of the cramps. It has gotten better though, as I got older. :) (That's one good thing, I guess... I don't think it makes up for the wrinkles...)

As someone said above - the pill really helped my cramps. I would have horrible cramps - crying - curling in a ball - just anything and everything you could imagine.

After I went on the pill my cramps went away - and it was heaven!!

But - I started getting migraines and have been off the pill for 2 and a half years. I don't get cramps nearly as often as I used to though - and when I do get them - they're not horribly bad - but what cramp feels good? o_O

I have the exact same problem. The doctors weren't any help at all. I've had to go it the natural way. I know sometimes a raw food diet will correct this. Personally I take a ton of turmeric and it takes the pain away. I've tried absolutely everything under the sun...so if you're looking for ideas give me a shout. I'd be happy to share my experiences.

I swear by fresh ginger and honey tea (not powdered ginger!) for helping cramps. But my cramps are usually a 6 hour to 1 day battle, not 3 days. 3 days is extreme and probably needs a doctor's intervention. It may be something that the pill can help.

You may also want to ask your doctor about to screen you for endometriosis.

You need to get checked out by a gynecologist. The symptoms you're having are indicative of endometriosis, and there's a lot that can be done to help if that is the case.

Poor you. I really sympathise- I had that problem before I started taking the COCP, and I know how much it sucks. A few suggestions:

* Get checked out, as timelesswings said, because there could be something wrong.
* Ask your doctor about taking the Pill, or, if you don't want to do that (you might not; I was never very comfortable with taking it, but some people have had no bad effects at all), anti-inflammatory drugs like mefenamic acid can help if you take them at the right time. If you live in the UK, something called 'feminax' can also be very helpful.
* Try taking the painkillers as soon as your period starts, or you feel the pains starting. If you take it after the onset of the cramps, it may take slightly longer to work.

If you have cramps THAT bad, you should seriously see a doctor. My doctor prescribed a heavier painkiller to help with pain... she may do a physical and make sure that you don't have something like endometriosis or anything like that.
don't have coverage? go to the teen health center in your area.

I had similar problems since my period started, and, though the pill didn't help at all, going on the NuvaRing has completely taken away my cramps. Well, they were actually worse the first month I was on it, but, since then, no pain! It's the only thing that's ever worked for me, so you might want to consider it. Good luck!
