I think it's possible, but other things can break it as well (fingering, sports, strenous activity), but even if the hymen does break, you *ARE* still a *VIRGIN* until you have sexual intercourse, whether your hymen is broken or not.

The hymen is not a good indicator of virginity, since those above could break it, and some girls are born without one.

Lots of things can. Such as riding a bike or horse.

In my opinion, our culture has been brainwashed to put way too much emphasis on a little peice of skin that is barely detectable in so many women anyway.

Knowing more about what it actually is (http://www.coolnurse.com/hymen.htm), might help clear things up for you.

Q. Am I still a virgin if I use a tampon?

A. Yes. You are still a virgin if you have not had sexual intercourse. Many girls worry that if they use tampons, they will no longer be virgins. You don't really have anything to worry about because a virgin is someone who has never had sexual intercourse. (And that is also in accordance with The Webster Dictionary, btw).

Many females who are virgins usually have a hymen -- a thin membrane or tissue that stretches partly across the opening of the vagina. Some females bleed slightly the first time they have sexual intercourse because the hymen stretches or breaks. It is possible that inserting a tampon will tear the hymen, but this is does not happen to every female. The hymen is just partially there or already has holes in it - how else would the menstrual flow get out? Even if a tampon does break the hymen, a teen is still a virgin until she has had sexual intercourse. I know I keep writing that, but I get emailed that question every day. --http://www.coolnurse.com/sex_faqs8.htm

Yep, it's possible. It's probable, but not guaranteed.

my hymen didn't actually break from sex... and I didn't really care. I never thought of it as my "virginity" and I don't think that was your question anyway. You just wanted to know, right? ...Well my Hymen was infact, broken by a tampon. It didn't feel too good either.

Idk why I didn't just tell you that when you asked me on AIM the other day.
